TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State's
Sasha Martello is leading the nation in NCAA Division II in strikeout to walk ratio and in walks per seven innings. Heading into this weekend, she is the only pitcher in NCAA Division II that has not walked a batter this season. She has twelve strikeouts with no walks in 70 innings pitched.
Martello was named to the 21
st Annual Tournament of Champions, presented by the City of Turlock, All-Tournament Team this weekend that the Warriors hosted at Warrior Field and the Pedretti Sports Complex. She joined her teammate,
Mikaela Ferreira, on the All-Tournament Team. She went 2-0 with a save in Stan State's 3-1 weekend. The junior transfer recorded victories in the Warriors' 7-5 win over Central Washington and 8-7 (8) win over Dominican (Calif.). Her save came in Stan State's 6-3 victory over Azusa Pacific.
For the season, she has an 8-4 record with one save in 21 appearances. She has posted a 3.73 earned run average. Martello has started in five games with three complete games. The Oxnard, Calif., native struck out 12 batters and walked no one in 70 innings pitched.
Earlier this season, she was named the CCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week.
The Warriors are scheduled to host San Francisco State this Friday-Saturday, March 29-30 in a four-game conference series at Warrior Field. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start and Saturday's is a noon start.
