Softball Continues Season Long Home Stand This Weekend with Four-Game Series versus SF State

TURLOCK, Calif.---  After going 3-1 at the 21st Annual Tournament of Champions, presented by the City of Turlock, Stan State will continue its season long 12-game home stand this Friday-Saturday, March 29-30 hosting San Francisco State in a four-game series at Warrior Field.  The series will begin with a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader this Friday and will finish with a noon starting doubleheader this Saturday.

3-1:  Stan State went 3-1 at the Tournament of Champions that the Warriors hosted this past weekend at Warrior Field and the Pedretti Sports Complex. They defeated Azusa Pacific (6-3), Central Washington (7-5), and Dominican (8-7 (8) and lost 11-5 to Hawai'i Hilo.

The Warriors hit .354 as a team with 4.10 team earned run average. Five players hit over .300 in Mikaela Ferreira (.800), Karli DalBianco (.583), Faith Erb (.364), Katie Thornsberry (.357), and Lauryn Serda (.333).  Ferreira posted team highs of 1.000 slugging and .813 on-base percentage.  She had a team leading 12 hits, five runs scored, and three doubles.  Faith Erb drove home a team high five runs.  Sasha Martello was 2-0 with a save with Shelby Frutoz picking up the other victory. 

UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS: Stan State enters its four-game series with the Gators with a 10-16 overall record and a 6-9 CCAA record.  The Warriors are hitting .277 as a team and have a 3.92 team earned run average.  They are in eighth place .100 percentage points out of sixth place (Cal State San Marcos).  The top six teams at the end of the regular season will receive a bid to the CCAA Softball Championship Tournament.  The top six teams are Cal State East Bay (9-5), Sonoma State (10-6), Cal State Dominguez Hills (11-7), Cal State San Bernardino (10-7), San Francisco State (8-8), and Cal State San Marcos (6-6).

WARRIOR HITTERS:  Stan State has five players hitting .275 or higher in Mikaela Ferreira (.456), Lauryn Serda (.329), Sasha Martello (.300), Jessica Gutierrez (.283), and Katie Thornsberry (.279).  Ferreria has a team leading .620 slugging and .532 on-base percentages.  She leads the Warriors with her 14 runs scored, 36 hits, seven doubles, 17 runs batted in, and 49 total bases.  Payton Applequist, Lauryn Serda, and Ferreira are tied for the team lead each with two home runs.  Thornsberry has stolen a team high four bases.

STAN STATE PITCHERS:  Sasha Martello leads the team with her team low earned run average 2.90, 8-4 record, and one save.  Shelby Frutoz has recorded the two other Warrior victories.  Martello has three complete games.  Victoria Alarcon has struck out a team high 19 batters.

CCAA PLAYER/PITCHERS OF THE WEEK:  Mikaela Ferreira was named the CCAA Softball Player of the Week for her performance this weekend in the Tournament of Champion.  Earlier this season, Sasha Martello was named the CCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: Both Mikaela Ferreira and Sasha Martello were named to the All-Tournament Team at the 21st Annual Tournament of Champions, presented by the City of Turlock.

NO WALKS: Heading into this weekend, Sasha Martello has not walked a batter in 70 innings pitched.  She has struck out 12 batters and walked none in her 21 appearances. Martello is 8-4 with a 3.73 earned run average and one save.  She is first in the nation in strikeouts to walk ratio (0.00) and her walks average per seven innings (0.00).  Martello is the only pitcher in the NCAA Division II that has not walked a batter.

CCAA:  Mikaela Ferreria is leading the CCAA in batting average (.456) and on-base percentage (.532).  She is third in OPS (1.152), fourth in hits (36), tied for fifth in doubles (seven), and seventh in slugging percentage (.620).  Sasha Martello is tied for third in victories (eight), and tied for fourth with her one save.

GATORS: San Francisco State enters its four-game series this weekend with a 12-15 overall record and an 8-8 CCAA record.  The Gators are hitting .264 as a team and has a 3.38 team earned run average.  Kai DeLeon leads the team with her .333 batting average, 19 runs scored, 29 hits, 13 stolen bases, and .431 on-base percentage.  Daniella Guerrero has driven in a team leading 16 runs and has a team high eight doubles.  Phoebe Schultz has hit a team high four home runs.  Elise Roy lads the team with her 6-5 record.  Mari Takada Bajan is 5-5 with a team low 2.26 earned run average and team leading 45 strikeouts.

ALL-TIME SERIES:  The Gators lead the all-time series with the Warriors 58-57 since 1999.  SF State has won six of the last seven games including all four games in San Francisco in 2023.  The Gators defeated Stan State 3-2, 2-1 (12), 4-3, and 4-2 last season at SF State.  The last Warrior victory was a 3-2 Stan State victory in Turlock on March 4, 2022.
