Warriors Finish 12-Game Home Stand This Weekend Hosting Cal Poly Humboldt

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State will finish off its 12-game home stand this Friday-Saturday, April 5-7 hosting Cal Poly Humboldt in a four-game CCAA series at the Warrior Softball Field.  The series will begin this Friday with a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader.  The two teams will conclude the series with an 11:00 a.m. starting doubleheader on Saturday.

UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS: After splitting its four-game series with San Francisco State this weekend at home, the Warriors are 12-18 overall and 8-11 in the CCAA including going 11-7 in their games at Warrior Field.   They are hitting .278 as a team and have a 3.82 earned run average.  Stan State is percentage points out of the sixth and final spot for the 2024 CCAA Softball Championship, which will be May 1-4 at San Marcos, Calif.  Stan State has sixteen games left in the regular season with eight at home (vs Cal Poly Humboldt, April 5-6 and vs. Sonoma State April 19-20) and eight on the road (at Cal State Monterey Bay, April 12-13 and at Cal State East Bay, April 26-27).  The winner of the CCAA Softball Championship will earn the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA's.  Standings updated on April 2 (9:20pm)

WARRIOR HITTERS:  Mikaela Ferreira leads the Warriors with her .472 batting average, 18 runs scored, 42 hits, ten doubles, three home runs, 21 runs batted in, 61 total bases, .685 slugging percentage, and .560 on-base percentage. Three other Warriors are hitting .275 or higher in Marissa Cerda (.316), Lauryn Serda (.314), and Jessica Gutierrez (.292). Gutierrez has a team leading two triples.  Katie Thornsberry leads the team with her four stolen bases.

STAN STATE PITCHERS:  Sasha Martello has a team low 2.75 earned run average with a 9-4 record with two saves.  Martello has struck out 15 batters and walked one.  Shelby Frutoz has struck out a team leading 28 batters with a 2-8 record.  Victoria Alarcon is 1-6 with one save.

17/13/11: Mikaela Ferreira has a current 17-game reached base safely streak, 11-game hitting streak and has 13 multiple-hit games.  She also has seven multiple-RBI games.  Lauryn Serda saw her 12-game hitting streak snapped against SF State while Jessica Gutierrez's seven-game hitting streak was snapped.  Both Serda and Sasha Martello saw their 12-game reached base safely streak snapped over the weekend.

VERSUS SF STATE:  The Warriors hit .287 in their 2-2 weekend against SF State.  They had a 3.25 earned run average.  Stan State won the openers of each doubleheader 7-4 and 5-4, but lost the night caps each day 4-2 and 4-1. Mikaela Ferreira hit .600 with six hits in ten at bats of which three were doubles and one a home run.  She drove in four runs and scored four times.  Sarah Warden hit .571 (four-for-seven) and Marissa Cerda was six-for-eleven with a .545 average.  Sasha Martello went 1-0 with a save and posted a 1.56 earned run average.  Victoria Alarcon was 1-1 with a save while Shelby Frutoz struck out 12 batters.

AMONGST THE NATIONAL LEADERS:  Sasha Martello is first in the nation with her 0.09 walks per seven innings with 15 strikeouts and one walk in 79 innings pitched.  Martello is second with her 15 to one strikeout to walk ratio.  Mikaela Ferreira is 17th in the nation in on-base percentage (.560) and 25th in batting average (.472). 

CCAA:  Stan State is in the top five in the CCAA in three team statistical categories.  The Warriors are tied for second with three saves, third in strikeouts to walks (68 strikeouts to 26 walks) and fifth in batting average (.278).  Mikaela Ferreira is leading the CCAA in batting average and on-base percentage and is tied for the league lead in doubles.  She is second in slugging percentage, hits, and OPS (1.245).  Ferreira is sixth in runs batted in while Payton Applequist is tied for sixth in hit by pitches.  Sasha Martello is tied for first in walks per seven innings, tied for second in saves, tied for fourth in victories, and tied for eighth in innings pitched.  Victoria Alarcon is tied for sixth in saves. 

LUMBERJACKS: Cal Poly Humboldt is 16-16 overall and 6-9 in the CCAA after going 1-2 against Sonoma State this weekend.  The 'Jacks are hitting .260 as a team with a 3.28 earned run average.  Alyssa Smokey leads the team with her .363 batting average and .541 on-base percentage. Izzy Starr is hitting .307 and leads Humboldt with her 20 runs scored, 31 hits, 10 doubles, four home runs, and .525 slugging percentage.  Katlyn Gifford has driven in a team leading 19 runs and leads the 'Jacks with her three triples.  Hailee Moore has stolen a team high ten bases.  Smokey has a team best 7-3 record with a team low 2.57 earned run average while has struck out a team high 45 batters.  She also has two of Humboldt's five saves.  Gaige Garcia has five victories and Vanessa Richie has four. 

ALL-TIME SERIES:  The 'Jacks lead the all-time series with the Warriors 42-16, but Stan State is 7-3 in their last ten meetings.  The two teams split the series last year 2-2 in Humboldt County.  The Warriors won the opener 9-8 behind Mikaela Ferreira, three-for-five day while Lauryn Serda and Kaylee Heath each had two hits.  Humboldt won game two 16-0 and the third game 6-5.  Stan State won the series finale 7-4.  Karli DalBianco was two-for-four while Serda was three-for-three with three runs batted in and Ferreira had two hits.
