Softball Looking to Move Up in CCAA Standings

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State will return to the softball diamond this weekend for a four-game series in Seaside, Calif., against Cal State Monterey Bay.  The series will begin the series with a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader this Friday, April 12. The two teams will conclude the series with a noon starting doubleheader this Saturday, April 13.

UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS: After splitting its four-game series with Cal Poly Humboldt, Stan State is percentage points out of the sixth and final spot for the 2024 CCAA Softball Championship, which will be May 1-4 at San Marcos, Calif.  Stan State has twelve games left in the regular season with four at home (vs. Sonoma State April 19-20) and eight on the road (at Cal State Monterey Bay, April 12-13 and at Cal State East Bay, April 26-27).  The winner of the CCAA Softball Championship will earn the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA's.

VERSUS HUMBOLDT:  Four Stan State hitters hit over .300 in Mikaela Ferreira (.600), Faith Erb (.364), Sasha Martello (.333), and Lauryn Serda (.308).  Katie Thornsberry stole two bases and scored two of the Warriors' four runs.  Victoria Alarcon was 1-1 with a 1.50 earned run average and five strikeouts in the circle.  Shelby Frutoz was 1-0 with a five strikeouts and a 1.75 earned run average.   

19/14/13:  Mikaela Ferreira is on a 19-game reached base safely streak and a 13-game hitting streak.  She has 14 multiple-hit games and seven multiple-RBI games. 

WARRIOR HITTERS:  Stan State has four players hitting .275 or higher in Mikaela Ferreira (.479), Lauryn Serda (.313), Marissa Cerda (.288), and Sasha Martello (.288).  Ferreira leads the Warriors with her three home runs, 21 runs batted in, 18 runs scored, 45 hits, ten doubles, .681 slugging percentage, and .569 on-base percentage.  Katie Thornsberry is a perfect six-for-six in stolen base attempts.

STAN STATE PITCHERS:  Sasha Martello leads the Warriors with her 9-5 record and 2.80 earned run average.  She also has two saves with a 16 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio.  Shelby Frutoz has struck out a team leading 33 batters followed by Victoria Alarcon with 30 strikeouts.

AMONGST THE NATIONAL LEADERS:   Sasha Martello leads the NCAA Division II with her 16 to one strikeout to walk ratio.  She also has a 0.08 walks per seven inning average.  Mikaela Ferreira is ninth in the nation with her .569 on-base percentage and 18th with her .479 batting average.

CCAA:  Mikaela Ferreira leads the CCAA in batting average, OPS, and is tied for first in doubles.  She is second in slugging and on-base percentage while she is fourth in hits.  Sasha Martello is tied for third in saves and tied for sixth in wins. 

OTTERS: Cal State Monterey Bay is 14-23 overall and 8-16 in the CCAA.  The Otters have a .242 batting average and a 2.89 earned run average.  Two players are hitting .300 or higher in Kieley Ganaden (.308) and Jackie Perales (.300).  Oli Perez has hit a team leading four home runs and is tied with Ally Alcayaga each with 14 runs batted in.  Perez leads CSUMB with her 20 runs scored while Anastacia Alba has stolen a team leading six bases.  Mackenzie Willis leads the Otters with her 10-10 record and 155 strikeouts

ALL-TIME SERIES:  CSUMB leads the all-time series with the Warriors 45-27 including going 6-4 in the ten last meetings.  The Otters took three out of four games in Turlock last season 2-1, 2-1, and 3-2.  Stan State won game three in eight innings, 2-1.
