Softball to Begin 2025 Season with Six-Game Home Stand Beginning this Saturday Versus Jessup

TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State begins its 2025 regular season with eleven of its fourteen games at home.  The Warriors will begin their season this weekend at home hosting Jessup University in a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader this Saturday, February 1 at Warrior Field.  They will continue their season beginning four-game home stand this Monday, February 3 hosting Academy of Art in a 2:00 p.m. starting doubleheader. 
 
WARRIORS: Stan State finished the 2024 season with a 19-28 overall record and a 15-21 CCAA record. The Warriors return nine letter-winners from last year's team.  Leading the way for the returners is Sasha Martello who finished her first season as a Warrior with a 11-6 record, two saves, 3-87 earned run average, and twenty strikeouts with just two walks in 111.2 innings pitched.  Victoria Alarcon and Shelby Frutoz also return with each posting four victories in the circle last season.  As a team, the Warriors hit .270 with three returners hitting over .300 last season in Martello (.305) and Lauryn Serda (.303).  Karli DalBianco drove in 26 runs last season and had seven doubles. 
 
MARTELLO:  Sasha Martello was named to the All-CCAA Honorable Mention Team in 2024.  She finished the season leading the nation in walks per seven innings (0.13) and fifth in strikeouts to walk ratio (10.00).  In the circle, the senior pitcher was 11-6 with two saves.  She struck out 20 batters and walked two in 111.2 innings pitched.  Martello pitched four complete games with a 3.87 earned run average.
 
TEN:  Of the Warriors' 17 players this season, ten are seniors in Victoria Alarcon, Marissa Cerda, Karli DalBianco, Sydney Davis, Shelby Frutoz, Sasha Martello, Allejandra Perea, Lauryn Serda, Katie Thornsberry, and Sarah Warden
 
TRIO OF JUNIORS:  Stan State has four juniors on this year's team in transfer McKenna Beach, returner Emily Bigley, and transfer Avery Jolley
 
FOUR FRESHMEN MUSKETEERS:  The Warriors will have four freshmen this season in Malia Babasa, Bree Barner, Moxie Barton, and Madison Rosebrough.
 
49 GAMES:  Stan State will have a 49-game schedule this season with 36 of them being CCAA games.  The Warriors CCAA opening series will be in San Marcos, Calif., for a four-game series with Cal State San Marcos, February 21-22.  They will host Chico State the following weekend, February 28-March 1. The CCAA Tournament is set for April 30-May 3 in Rohnert Park, Calif., on the campus of Sonoma State University at the Seawolf Softball Field.
 
TOC:  Stan State will host the 22nd Annual Tournament of Champions, February 13-16 at Warrior Field and Pedretti Park.  This year's field includes 16 teams from the CCAA, GNAC, and PacWest Conferences. 
 
JESSUP: The Jessup Warriors were members of the Golden State Athletic Conference last season, finishing 44-12 overall and 15-5 in conference. They made it to the NAIA Softball World Series finals, falling short 2-0 to Our Lady of the Lake University. The 2024-25 academic year is the first year that the Warriors are affiliated with the NCAA Division II and a member of the PacWest Conference. They return senior Sarah Giles who played a significant part in Jessup's impressive run, earning GSAC and NAIA Player of the Year, NAIA First Team All-American, and GSAC Gold Glove Team as a first baseman.  This is the first ever meeting between the two teams.
 
POSTER DAY/WARRIOR SOFTBALL BINGO GAME:  The Warriors' home opener versus Jessup will be Poster Day and the first of many Warrior Softball Bingo Games.  Warrior fans will have a chance to win prizes throughout the doubleheader with the purchase of a Warrior Softball Bingo Card.
 
ACADEMY OF ART:  The Urban Knights went 12-32 last season and 8-20 in the PacWest Conference.  They return seven letter-winners from last year's team including All-PacWest honorees Alexis Folks and Cailee Grayhorse-Pupecki.  Folks hit .313 with 42 hits while scoring 17 runs.  Greyhorse-Pupecki hit .289 with four home runs, four triples, four doubles, and drove in 18 runs.  Kayla Vaughn posted five victories in the circle with 95 strikeouts in 118 innings pitched. 
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  Stan State leads the all-time series 14-4-1 since 2009. The Warriors have won four of the last five meetings including the last won 17-0 in five innings on Feb. 11, 2023, in Chico, Calif.  Katie Thornsberry went three-for-three with a run batted in and two runs scored.  Victoria Alarcon pitched two scoreless innings of relief while striking out four and giving up one hit.

UP NEXT: The Warriors will finish out their six-game home stand on Friday, February 7.  The Warriors will host Dominican with a noon starting doubleheader on February 7. After doubleheader on Friday, Stan State will travel to Atherton, Calif., for a noon starting doubleheader February 11 against Menlo College.  They will return home February 13 for a 3:00 p.m. starting game against Northwest Nazarene to begin the 2025 Tournament of Champions.
