Men’s Basketball Closes Four-Game Homestand versus CSUMB, CSUSM

TURLOCK, Calif. — Stan State men's basketball closes a four-game home stand this week as the Warriors host Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday, January 2 at 7:30 p.m. inside Fitzpatrick Arena before welcoming Cal State San Marcos on Sunday, January 4 at 3 p.m.

Stan State enters the week at 5–5 overall and 1–3 in CCAA play as it looks to finish the home stand strong before returning to the road.

Warriors Continue Home Stand in Conference Play
The Warriors most recently competed in a pair of conference games prior to the holiday break, falling in closely contested match-ups against Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona. Stan State has remained competitive throughout its CCAA slate, highlighted by a 57–54 road victory at Chico State earlier this season that marked the program's first conference win of the year.

Last Time Out
Stan State is coming off a pair of competitive home games against conference opponents, falling 81–73 to Cal State San Bernardino and 93–88 to Cal Poly Pomona inside Fitzpatrick Arena. Against CSUSB, the Warriors built a 36–28 halftime lead while shooting 54.5 percent in the opening half, led by 20 points from Donjae Lindsey and 15 apiece from Lloyd French and Malachi Johnson, before the Coyotes rallied after halftime. Stan State followed with a strong offensive showing against Cal Poly Pomona, shooting 54.0 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from three, as five Warriors scored in double figures, led by Malachi Johnson's 23 points and 15 off the bench from Javon Johnson. Stan State is averaging 74.1 points per game while shooting 47.0 percent from the field and 36.0 percent from three-point range. Donjae Lindsey leads the Warriors at 12.5 points per game while shooting 57.3 percent from the floor and also paces the team with 29 assists and a team-high 11 steals. Malachi Johnson adds 11.4 points per game, leads the team with 6.2 rebounds per contest, and ranks first on the roster with seven blocked shots, while Daniel Ameyaw contributes 10.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in the post.

Jason Zimmer continues to provide perimeter scoring at 44.2 percent from three-point range, while Jason Cibull and Tahjae Ordonio add depth off the bench. Ten different Warriors are averaging at least 2.0 points per game, underscoring the team's balanced offensive approach.

Newcomers Making an Immediate Impact
Newcomers Malachi Johnson and Donjae Lindsey have made an immediate impact in their first season with Stan State, quickly becoming key contributors on both ends of the floor. Lindsey leads the Warriors in scoring while shooting an efficient 57.3 percent from the field and pacing the team in assists and steals. Johnson has been equally influential, ranking second on the team in scoring while leading the roster in rebounding and blocked shots, providing versatility and consistency as Stan State navigates the heart of CCAA play.

Stan State enters the week ranked among the CCAA's top teams statistically, sitting fourth in the conference in scoring offense, second in field-goal percentage, and third in three-point field-goal percentage. The Warriors also rank third in assists per game and third in assist-to-turnover ratio, reflecting their efficiency and ball movement on the offensive end. Individually, Daniel Ameyaw ranks ninth in the conference in rebounding, while Jason Zimmer sits sixth in three-point field-goal percentage and ninth in three-pointers made per game. Donjae Lindsey also ranks among the league's top shooters, checking in 10th in free-throw percentage.

Ameyaw Nears 500 Career Rebounds
Daniel Ameyaw enters the weekend nearing a major career milestone, sitting at 483 career rebounds through four seasons in a Stan State uniform. Ameyaw has averaged 6.0 rebounds per game over 80 career appearances and has been a consistent presence on the glass each season, including career totals of 208 rebounds in 2024–25 and 137 rebounds in 2023–24. The forward is averaging 6.4 rebounds per game this season while shooting 53.3 percent from the field and is on pace to become one of the program's most reliable rebounders since joining the Warriors in 2022–23.

Double-Double Watch
Daniel Ameyaw recorded his first double-double of the season earlier this year against Fresno Pacific, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the Warriors' victory. The performance marked the ninth double-double of Ameyaw's career at Stan State. Lloyd French also notched the first double-double of his career in the loss to Cal Poly Pomona, posting 11 points and a career-high 12 assists to become the second Warrior this season to record a double-double.

Cal State Monterey Bay Update
Cal State Monterey Bay enters Friday's matchup at 7–3 overall and 2–2 in CCAA play, averaging 80.3 points per game while shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three-point range. The Otters also own a +9.4 rebounding margin per game.

Michael Mora leads CSUMB with 17.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, while Jaden Tengan averages 14.8 points and shoots 88.0 percent from the free-throw line. Joey Bilello adds 11.6 points per game, and Mezziah Oakman contributes 9.9 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest. Monterey Bay enters the week looking to rebound after back-to-back conference losses.

Season Series vs. Cal State Monterey Bay
Stan State leads the season series against Cal State Monterey Bay 8–7 since 2013, having swept the season series a year ago and winning the last three meetings overall. The Warriors earned a 90–79 victory at Fitzpatrick Arena in the first match-up, outscoring CSUMB 30–19 off the bench behind a game-high 28 points from Jeremiah Jones, 19 points from Jason Cibull and a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds from Daniel Ameyaw. Stan State completed the sweep with a 69–68 overtime win in Seaside as William Chavarin scored a career-high 18 points, including the game-winning free throws with three seconds remaining, while the Warriors forced 21 turnovers and held the Otters to 44 percent shooting.

Cal State San Marcos Update
Cal State San Marcos enters its game at UC Merced this Friday before heading to Stan State on Sunday with a 5–4 overall record and a 2–2 mark in CCAA play. The Cougars average 74.3 points per game while allowing 70.6 and force 14.1 turnovers per contest.

Keavie Love leads CSUSM with 16.0 points per game, while Dexter Stratton adds 13.2 points and a team-high 7.9 rebounds per game. Max Tengan contributes 9.8 points per contest while shooting 47.6 percent from three-point range. San Marcos enters the weekend on a two-game winning streak.

Season Series vs. Cal State San Marcos
Cal State San Marcos leads the all-time series against Stan State 12–4 since 2016, with the teams splitting the season series a year ago. Stan State earned a 78–63 road victory in San Marcos behind a balanced team effort that saw four Warriors score in double figures, led by 19 points from Jeremiah Jones and a season-high 15 points off the bench from Lloyd French. Daniel Ameyaw added 11 points and Cameron Walker chipped in 10 as the Warriors led wire-to-wire, held the Cougars to 38.2 percent shooting, and forced 15 turnovers. CSUSM answered with a 66–54 win in Turlock as Jeremiah Jones scored a game-high 24 points and Jonathan Tchengang added 11, but the Cougars used a decisive second-half run to pull away late.
