TURLOCK, Calif.--- The Warriors travel for their first conference games, starting off with a difficult CCAA matchup in No.14 Cal State San Marcos. They arrive on Friday, February 21
st for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. On Saturday, February 22
nd, the doubleheader begins at 11:00 a.m.
LAST WEEK: Stan State went on a four-game loss streak last week, falling short in the Tournament of Champions 7-6 to Central Washington and 6-1 to Simon Fraser.
Allejandra Perea hit four-for-seven over the two games with a run scored and four runs batted in. Two errors proved costly for the Warriors versus Central Washington, while an error by Simon Fraser aided Stan State in earning a run of their own.
Versus Biola University, the Warriors dropped the doubleheader first 4-2 then 13-2. Stan State made good contact in both games with only one strikeout in 30 at bats in the first game and three strikeouts in 28 at bats in the second game, but most hits were easily fielded by Biola.
Malia Babasa went three-for-four in the first game with a run scored, while
Lauryn Serda went two-for-three in the second game and scored a run.
WARRIORS IN REVIEW: Stan State, at 3-7 overall, is currently hitting .287 as a team and have a 3.55 earned run average. The Warriors have a .323 slugging percentage and a .365 on base percentage. Their 17 errors earn them a .946 fielding percentage in their 10 games played.
HITTERS: Four Warriors are hitting over .300 in
Katie Thornsberry (.400),
Lauryn Serda (.375),
Malia Babasa (.353), and
Karli DalBianco (3.45). Babasa and Thornsberry lead the team in hits with 12, followed by DalBianco with 10.
McKenna Beach leads in runs batted in with six and has hit Stan State's only home run thus far.
Katie Thornsberry and
Malia Babasa have crossed home plate seven times each for the Warriors.
Lauryn Serda is the team leader with a .458 slugging percentage and
Katie Thornsberry has the highest on-base percentage at .481. Thornsberry and Babasa have acquired the team's two stolen bases.
PITCHERS: Sasha Martello, who is 1-1, leads the team with a 2.86 earned run average with two strikeouts and three walks. Victoria Alacron has recorded Stan State's other win with
Bree Barner recording the only save. Alacron has struck out 25 while
Shelby Frutoz has struck out 12.
BABASA: Malia Babasa went three-for-four and scored a run in the first game versus Biola. This is Babasa's best game as a batter since she went one-for-two versus Central Washington with a walk, a hit, and a run scored. Overall, Babasa went five-for-eight on the day with a run batted in and a run scored.
THORNSBERRY FINDING A WAY: Katie Thornsberry leads the team with her .579 on base percentage, paired with her .467 batting average. Thornsberry has continued her streak of reaching base in every game played thus far. She has gotten a hit in all but one, in which she walked to get on base. Â
CAL STATE SAN MARCOS: The Cougars, ranked 14
th, are 10-1 with their only loss coming from a split doubleheader with Hawaii Pacific University in which they lost 2-1. They are batting .379 as a team with a 2.66 ERA. Four players are batting .500 or higher in Jillian Albayati (.563), Savannah Cole (.542), Delaney Prater (.524), and Paige Donnelly (.500). Albayati leads the team in hits with 18, slugging percentage with .906, and has an on base percentage of .576. Donnelly has driven in the most runs with 12. Jordan Elias has scored the most runs with 11 and stolen a team-leading seven bases. Albayati and Donnelly lead the team with two home runs each. Jayline Sloss leads the team with a 1.54 earned run average over 23.1 innings, striking out 10. Savannah Cole has the most strikeouts with 17 and has recorded two saves, while also leading with four victories.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State is ahead in the all-time series 16-15. In their last meeting, Cal State San Marcos was victorious over the Warriors 8-0 after five innings while the Warriors visited San Marcos. Stan State split the doubleheader that day, winning the first game 6-5, though they were behind in the season series 3-1.
