Softball Hosts Chico State for Second CCAA Matchup

TURLOCK, Calif.--- The Warriors host Chico State for their next CCAA matchup. The teams will play two doubleheaders, beginning on Friday, February 28th at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday, March 1st, the first game is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
 
LAST WEEK: Stan State struggled versus No.14 Cal State San Marcos last week, falling short over the four-game series that consisted of two doubleheaders. On Friday, February 21st, the Warriors lost the first game 6-2 and missed out on the second game 5-4. Malia Babasa went three-for-seven over the two games with a run batted in and a walk. Katie Thornsberry went two-for-five with two runs batted in, a walk, and a stolen base.
 
On Saturday, February 22nd, Stan State fell 5-2 in the first game and 1-0 in the second. Malia Babasa once again went three-for-seven, while Katie Thornsberry and Marissa Cerda each stole a base in the first game. Bree Barner pitched the second game, allowing one run and seven hits over six innings pitched and only one walk.
 
WARRIORS IN REVIEW: Stan State (3-11, 0-4 CCAA) is hitting .264 as a team and hold a 3.81 earned run average. The Warriors have a .299 slugging percentage .347 on base percentage. Their 22 errors over 14 games earn them a .948 fielding percentage.
 
HITTERS: Three Warriors are hitting over .300 in Malia Babasa (.375), Katie Thornsberry (.366), and Lauryn Serda (.314). Babasa leads the team in hits with 18. McKenna Beach and Lauryn Serda have earned the most runs batted in with six each, while Beach has hit the Warriors' only home run thus far. Katie Thornsberry has made it across home plate eight times. Malia Babasa leads the team in slugging with .375 percent and Katie Thornsberry has the highest on base percentage at .447 and adds a team-leading three stolen bases to that.
 
PITCHERS: Victoria Alarcon has a 2-4 record, starting the most games with six. Alarcon has a team leading 29 strikeouts in 34.2 innings pitched. Sasha Martello maintains the lowest earned run average at 2.86 with 14.2 innings pitched and holds the next highest record at 1-1. Bree Barner has recorded Stan State's only save thus far.  
 
MULTIPLES: Malia Babasa has earned the most multi-hit games at five, with four games with two hits and one game with three hits. Lauryn Serda follows with four games, all with two hits. Babasa and Katie Thornsberry are tied fort he longest hitting steak with six games, though six is Babasa's current streak. Karli DalBianco has the most multi-RBI games with two runs batted in. Katie Thornsberry has maintained her on-base streak at 14, reaching base in every game the Warriors have played.
 
NATIONALLY RANKED: Stan State is in the top 30 in NCAA Division II in several categories. As a team, they are 29th in sacrifice bunts (11), 11th in double plays per game (0.57), and eighth in double plays (8). Victoria Alarcon is 21st in complete games pitched with five and eighth in shutouts with two.
 
CCAA RANKINGS: As a team, the Warriors are fifth in sacrifice bunts (11), fifth in strikeouts per seven innings (4.33), second in double plays (8), and first in double plays per game. Bree Barner is third in the conference with her one save. Sarah Warden is fourth in catching runners stealing with three. Victoria Alarcon is fifth in strikeouts with 29 and third in shutouts with two.
 
BABASA: Malia Babasa continues her consistency, getting a hit in every game this season except for one. The junior transfer is currently batting .375 with five multi-base hits. Babasa has also accounted for seven of the Warriors' run this season while driving in two.
 
ALARCON: Despite some tough outings, Victoria Alarcon has also had some great outings. Alarcon has struck out 29 batters over 34.2 innings, already over halfway to her career high of 52 strikeouts in a season. She is also eighth in NCAA Division II with her two shutouts in her first two appearances this season.
 
CHICO STATE: Chico State (11-3, 3-1 CCAA) are batting .264 as a team and hold a 1.08 earned run average. Three players are batting over .300 in Kennedy Gustin (.435), Mia Santos (.378), and Gracie Dunning (.324). Gustin leads the team with 20 hits and 10 runs scored. Dunning and Ali Lewis have each hit two home runs, with Dunning leading in slugging percentage with .568. Gustin has the highest on base percentage at .490. Mia Santos leads the team in stolen bases with seven. Bella Tavares, who is currently 3-0, has a 0.35 earned run average in 20 innings pitched. Amelie Valdez, who is 6-2, has struck out 45 batters over 53 innings. Chloey Swenson has recorded Chico State's only save.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES: The Wildcats lead the all-time series with the Warriors 40-25, dating back to 2008. Despite that, Stan State has won the last five meetings between the two teams, with one game being in Chico and the other four in Turlock, Calif.

UP NEXT: Cal State San Bernardino hosts Stan State for a pair of double headers on Friday, March 7th and Saturday, March 8th. The first game on Friday is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., while the first game on Saturday will start at 11:00 a.m.
