TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State will continue its season long season beginning fourteen-game home stand this Friday-Saturday, February 7-8 hosting the Saint Martin's Saints out of Lacey, Wash. The series opener will be this Friday, February 7 at 4:00 p.m. The two teams will conclude the series with a noon starting doubleheader this Saturday, February 8. Former Stan State pitcher Greg Magni '01 will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to game one of this Saturday's doubleheader.
LAST WEEK: The Warriors started their season with four heart-breakers last weekend to Central Washington. Stan State lost 6-5 in 13 innings in the opener.
JD Madrigal had two hits including a three-run game-tying home run. The pitching duo of
Cameron Rosen and
Adam Davies combined to pitch six scoreless innings, giving up four hits while striking out six and walking one. In game two, Stan State lost 6-5 gain despite Madrigal's three-hit game with a solo home run.
Caleb Bertoncini pitched 4.2 innings of relief, giving up three hits and a run while striking out six and walking one. The Warriors lost 10-9 in game three despite
Rocco Gurrola pitching five innings, giving up three runs and six hits while striking out. In the series finale, Stan State lost 5-2 in seven innings.
Greyson Gregory and
LaKeal Morris pitched a combined three innings of relief, giving up five hits and a run while striking out six and walking one.
WARRIORS IN REVIEW: Stan State is hitting .268 as a team with a .389 slugging and a .347 on-base percentage. The Warriors' pitching staff has a team earned run average of 5.68 with 37 strikeouts and just 14 walks in 38 innings. Their defense has a .987 fielding percentage.
HITTERS: Four Warriors are hitting over .380 in
Jackson Brooks (.500),
Tyler Van Dyk (.429),
Danny Murphy (.417), and
JD Madrigal (.389). Madrigal leads the team with his seven hits of which two are home runs. He has driven in a team leading five runs and scored a team high five times. Six Warriors have one double each in Brooks and Van Dyk along with
Arthur Navarette Jr.,
Luke Davies,
Flavio Perez, and
Jonluke Goldman. Leading the team with his .722 slugging percentage is Madrigal at .722 while Brooks has a team high .571 on-base percentage. Three Warriors have stolen a base in Brooks,
Jacob Baker, and
Cooper Winton.
PITCHERS: Five Stan State pitchers have not given up an earned run this season with at least one inning pitch in
Cameron Rosen,
Adam Davies,
Luke Leonard,
LaKeal Morris, and
Reid Rasmussen.
Rocco Gurrola has struck out a leading eight batters with
Caleb Bertoncini right behind him with six followed by Rosen with four.
SOLIS: Alex Solis is third on the career doubles list at Stan State with his 40 doubles. He is now three doubles of becoming the all-time leader at Stan State. He is sixth on the Warriors' all-time hits list with 150.
ALSO MOVING CLOSER: Four Warriors in

Flavio Perez are moving closer to moving into the top ten lists at Stan State in the D2ERA. Baker is eight stolen bases from moving into the top ten as he has 27 career stolen bases. Balentine is seven victories away from moving into the top ten in the wins list as he is now 10-4 in his career. With his 29 stolen bases, Leonesio is six from moving into the top ten in stolen bases. Perez has 13 career home runs and driven in 69 runs. Those numbers place him three home runs and 21 runs batted in from moving into tenth.
CEREMONIAL FIRST PITCH: Greg Magni'01 was a member of the Warriors' baseball team from 1997 to 2000. He still holds the career appearance record with 88 games during that four-year span. Prior to attending Stan State, Magni graduated from Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, Calif., in 1996. He has worked for the Ceres Unified School District for the past 23 years. During that span, Magni spent two years as a substitute teacher and baseball coach at Ceres High School, nine years as a teacher (English teacher and Central Valley High Varsity baseball coach), and the last twelve years as the Athletic Director at Central Valley High School in Ceres. Central Valley High School opened in the Fall of 2005, and he has worked there for all twenty years. He was the first ever varsity baseball coach.
The Turlock resident was the 2019 CIF SJS Athletic Director of the Year, 2015 CIF SJC Norm MacKenzie Rookie AD of the Year, and 2009 California League of High Schools' Educator of the Year (was an English teacher at the time). He is married to Elaine Magni for the past 18 years. They have three children in Will (17), Giuliana (15), and Sofia (13).
MULTIPLE: JD Madrigal has three multiple-hit games with two two-hit games and one three-hit game. The trio of
Ryan Leonesio,
Danny Murphy, and
Arthur Navarette Jr., each have two multiple-hit games. Madrigal also has one three-RBI game. The trio of Leonesio, Madrigal, and
Flavio Perez have reached base safely in all four of the Warrior first four games.
SAINT MARTIN'S: The Saints are the second consecutive Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent that Stan State has faced to begin the 2025 season. They enter this weekend with a 0-4 after being swept by Cal State San Marcos (9-1, 17-13, 6-5, and 12-5). Saint Martin's has a .304 batting average with a 10.20 earned run average. Three Saints are hitting over .400 in Hunter Sasaki (.625), Kyle Schabot (.533), and Alex Hartnett (.462). Sasaki has driven in a team leading five runs while Rylen Miyasaki has scored a team high four runs. They have three home run one each by Hartnett, Collin Bell, and Peter Hollabaugh. Bryson Nakamoto leads the Saints' pitching staff with his four strikeouts. Three Saints have not allowed an earned run this season with at least one inning pitch in Nakamoto, Hollabaugh, and Tyler Young.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State leads the all-time series with Saint Martin's 4-0. The two teams last faced each other during the 2009 season which the Warriors won 14-1, 10-0 (7), 17-11, and 4-0 (7).
