DMR Improves Time While Wallace Breaks Two School Records to Highlight Weekend for Stan State at Wolf Pack Classic

RENO, Nev.---  Stan State's Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team of Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva, Mila Real, Crystal Hernandez, and Annie Wild ran a time of 11:40.49 to capture the Wolf Pack Classic this Saturday in Reno, Nev.  That time is the ninth fastest time in the nation in NCAA Division II and second fastest ever by a Stan State DMR.  Senior sprinter Rionna Wallace broke two schools this weekend in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash.  Wallace ran a 7.71 in the 60 and 24.92 in the 200.

"The ladies continue to achieve in Reno…we've had a great series of meets there this season and it has prepared the ladies for upcoming opportunities…great job by athletes and coaches achieving numerous personal bests, two school records, one facility record, and an improvement on our nationally ranked DMR," said head coach Troy Johnson

The Warriors had three teams participating in the DMR.  Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva, Mila Real, Crystal Hernandez, and Annie Wild won the field with a time of 11:49.62.  That time improves their NCAA Division II provisionally qualifying time and moves them into ninth in the nation.  This is also the second fastest in school history and broke the facility record at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. 

The team of Bela Moreno, Dede Salcedo, Nohely Ron, and Yahaira Zuniga finished in fifth (13:00.79).  Nina Furtado, Pamela Vargas, Ariana Puccini, and Tessa Vasquez finished in sixth place with a time of 13:41.79.
Rionna Wallace started her weekend on Friday shattering her school record with her eleventh-place time of 7.71 in the 60-meter dash at the Wolf Pack Classic.  Wallace ran a 24.92 to break Stan State's record and to finish in 17th place in the field. 

Annie Wild captured the field in 800-meters with a time of 2:14.05.  Earlier this season, Wild ran a NCAA Division II provisional time of 2:11.23 at the UW Preview/Mile City Preview.  Finishing in fourth place was Crystal Hernandez ran a time of 2:18.04.  Also finishing in top 20 in the field were Tessa Vasquez (14th, 2:24.72), Mila Real (17th, 2:25.22), and Noheli Ron (19th, 2:25.97).

In the mile, Yahaira Zuniga ran a 5:10.76 to finish second place.  The next Warrior to cross the finish line was Tessa Vasquez with her time of 5:15.20 followed by Dede Salcedo in ninth place (5:18.40).  Nina Furtado (14th, 5:27.33) and Bela Moreno (17th, 5:30.96) were the other Warriors to finish in the top 20 in this weekend's field.

Throwers Alexis Nino and Sienna Hawkins finished in the top 20 in the weight throw.  Nino finished in 14th place with a throw of 13.79m (45-3) and Hawkins was 20th with a throw of 11.05m (36-3).  In the shot put, Nino finished in 18th place (11.46m, 37-7.25) and Hawkins finished in 20th place (10.37m, 34-0.25).

OTHER TEAMS IN THE WOLF PACK:  Besides Stan State and the hosts Nevada, other teams competing in this weekend's Wolf Pack Classic were Cal State Northridge, UC Riverside, Sacramento State, UC San Diego, San Francisco, Pepperdine, Utah Valley, Simon Fraser, Northwest Nazarene, and Fresno Pacific. 

UP NEXT:  Stan State will return to Seattle, Wash., for its final invite of the regular season for indoor track and field.  The Warriors will participate in the Husky Classic, February 14-15, at the Dempsey Indoor Center on the campus of the University of Washington.  The 2024-25 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship is set for March 13-15 at the Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis, Ind.  The field for the championship will be announced on March 4 on ncaa.com.
