BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Stanislaus State men's golf wrapped up the opening day of the Western Washington University Invitational on Monday at Bellingham Golf & Country Club, finishing tied for 11th in the 14-team field. The Warriors battled through rainy conditions in the Pacific Northwest, carding rounds of 297 (+9) and 299 (+11) for a 36-hole total of 596 (+20), putting them alongside Saint Martin's heading into Tuesday's final round.
Leading the charge was
Owen Bascom, who sits in a tie for 11th on the individual leaderboard at 143 (-1). Bascom came out hot with a first-round 69 (-3) and followed it with a 74 (+2) in round two, keeping him within striking distance of the top 10.
Behind him,
Chase Bird turned in rounds of 76–73 for a 149 (+5), good for a tie for 42nd.
Ricky Sullivan (78–75) and
Carson Diaz (76–77) each finished the day at 153 (+9), tied for 66th.
Riley Kirk rounded out the Warriors' scoring with a 154 (+10) (76–78), tied for 70th.
UBC Okanagan (-8, 568) holds the overnight lead, with Simon Fraser (-5, 571) and British Columbia (+3, 579) rounding out the top three. Individually, UBC Okanagan's Ryan Vest leads the field after firing rounds of 69 and 65 for a 10-under-par 134.
The Warriors will tee it up Tuesday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. They will be start at holes 10-12 with golfers from Vanguard University and Saint Martin's. Â
After tomorrow's finish, Stan State will return to the course Monday–Tuesday, October 6–7, at the National Preview hosted at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
