Stan State Set for Home CCAA Tests Against Bay Area Foes

TURLOCK, Calif. — Stan State men's basketball returns to Fitzpatrick Arena this week for a key two-game CCAA homestand, hosting San Francisco State on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. before welcoming No. 10 Cal State East Bay on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Warriors in Review
Stan State enters the home stand at 7–7 overall and 3–5 in CCAA play, averaging 72.8 points per game while allowing 72.4 through 14 contests. The Warriors are shooting 44.9 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from three-point range, connecting on 7.1 three-pointers per game, while also holding a +1.2 rebounding margin at 34.6 rebounds per contest. Defensively, Stan State has forced 11.7 turnovers per game and averages 6.1 steals, keeping games competitive throughout conference play. Offensively, the Warriors feature a balanced attack led by Donjae Lindsey (13.0 ppg), who also leads the team in field-goal percentage (56.3%) and three-point shooting (52.2%), and Malachi Johnson (11.9 ppg, 7.1 rpg), who leads the team in rebounds and blocked shots (13). Lloyd French leads the Warriors in assists (34) and steals (16), while Tahjae Ordonio paces the team at the free-throw line (91.7%), followed by Jason Zimmer (.833), Jason Cibull (.889), and Lindsey (.818).

Weekend Recap
Stan State went 0–2 on the road last weekend, falling 57–56 at Cal State Los Angeles on Thursday before closing the trip with a 71–80 loss at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday. The Warriors were outscored 137–127 over the two games but controlled the glass, outrebounding their opponents 76–62. Malachi Johnson led Stan State in scoring over the weekend and averaged a double-double, also pacing the team in rebounding while recording his third double-double of the season with an 11-point, 11-rebound performance at Cal State Los Angeles. Stan State converted at the free-throw line at an 80.8 percent clip and remained within reach late in both contests.

5–2 in Close Games
Stan State has been tested in tight contests this season and has responded well, posting a 5–2 record in close games. The Warriors earned close wins at Menlo (78–74), at Dominican (93–89), at Chico State (57–54), against Cal State Monterey Bay (79–77), and versus Cal State San Marcos (72–68), with their two narrow losses coming against Cal Poly Pomona (93–88) and at Cal State Los Angeles (57–56). Across those seven games, Stan State has averaged 74.7 points per game while holding opponents to 73.1, controlled the glass with 34.3 rebounds per contest, and shot 46.3 percent from the field while limiting opponents to 45.3 percent shooting. Malachi Johnson and Donjae Lindsey have led the scoring efforts in close games, with Johnson anchoring the paint on the boards as the Warriors have consistently executed in late-game situations.

CCAA Leaders
Stan State ranks among the top teams in the CCAA statistically, sitting third in field-goal percentage, fourth in opponent rebounds, fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio, fifth in assists per game, fifth in free-throw percentage, and sixth in scoring offense. Individually, Malachi Johnson ranks sixth in the conference in rebounding and blocked shots, while Jason Zimmer sits fourth in three-point field-goal percentage and 10th in three-pointers made per game. Donjae Lindsey ranks sixth in the CCAA in free-throw percentage.

Warriors with Double-Doubles
Malachi Johnson leads the Warriors with three double-doubles this season, most recently recording an 11-point, 11-rebound performance at Cal State Los Angeles. Johnson has been a consistent presence on both ends of the floor, anchoring the paint while leading Stan State in rebounding. Daniel Ameyaw has also recorded a double-double this season and now owns nine career double-doubles, posting 14 points and 12 rebounds earlier this year. Lloyd French notched the first double-double of his career with 11 points and a career-high 12 assists, highlighting the Warriors' balanced production across the lineup.

Ameyaw Reaches 500 Rebounds
Daniel Ameyaw recently became the fifth Warrior in program history to surpass 500 career rebounds, reaching the milestone during his fourth season in a Stan State uniform. Ameyaw has totaled 502 rebounds over 84 career games, averaging 6.0 rebounds per contest, and has been a consistent presence on the glass since joining the program in 2022–23. He now ranks fifth on Stan State's all-time rebounding list, trailing Rick Wright (1,108), Gerry Rodriguez (582), Shawn Graham (560), and Brian Hall (520). Ameyaw posted career-best rebounding numbers in 2024–25 with 208 rebounds and is averaging 5.9 rebounds per game this season while shooting 50.5 percent from the field, continuing to anchor the Warriors' front court with reliability and efficiency.

San Francisco State Update
San Francisco State enters the week at 2–12 overall and 1–7 in CCAA play. The Gators went 0–2 last weekend, falling 83–90 at Cal Poly Humboldt before dropping a 77–85 decision at Chico State. San Francisco State averages 64.9 points per game and is led offensively by Fed Pernell (11.8 ppg in five games), Bricen Buciak (10.9 ppg), and Miles Pollard (10.4 ppg). Markees Williams leads the Gators in assists with 50 on the season, while Buciak paces the team with 14 steals. Evan McKnight leads San Francisco State in blocked shots with eight and also tops the team in field-goal percentage at 62.9 percent. Pernell leads the Gators at the free-throw line at 85.7 percent, and Parsa Hadjighasemi leads the team with 23 made three-pointers.

Season Series vs. San Francisco State
San Francisco State holds a 34–24 advantage in the all-time series dating back to 1993, though Stan State has won three of the last four meetings. Last season, the Warriors swept the season series, opening with a 67–55 road victory in San Francisco on Jan. 9, 2025, behind 11 points from Jason Cibull. Stan State completed the sweep with a 61–57 win in Turlock on Feb. 1, 2025, led by 12 points from Daniel Ameyaw and 11 points from Cibull.

Cal State East Bay Update
No. 10 Cal State East Bay enters the weekend unbeaten at 14–0 overall and 8–0 in CCAA play. The Pioneers are averaging 75.5 points per game while holding opponents to 62.2, ranking among the league's best with a +13.3 scoring margin. East Bay is shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 34.3 percent from three-point range, while dominating the glass at 39.4 rebounds per game for a +7.7 rebounding margin. Tyree Campbell leads the team at 14.3 points per game while shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 49.2 percent from three. Jaayden Bush adds 11.0 points per game and leads the team with 40 assists and 26 steals, while Joshua Ijeh anchors the interior with a team-high 5.4 rebounds per game and 17 blocked shots. Cal State East Bay will face UC Merced on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m., before traveling to Turlock on Saturday.

Season Series vs. Cal State East Bay
Stan State holds a 24–14 advantage in the all-time series dating back to 2008, though Cal State East Bay has won four of the last five meetings. Last season, the Pioneers earned an 82–67 win in Hayward on Jan. 11, 2025, with Jason Cibull scoring 12 points for the Warriors. East Bay later secured a 79–69 victory in Turlock on Jan. 30, 2025, despite a 12-point, 10-rebound performance from Daniel Ameyaw. Stan State's most recent win in the series came on Jan. 27, 2024, a 79–73 road victory in Hayward.

After hosting Cal State East Bay on Saturday, Stan State will continue CCAA play next week with a home-and-away series against Central Valley rival UC Merced. The Warriors will travel to Merced to face the Bobcats on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m., before returning home to host UC Merced on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3 p.m. on Golden Valley Health Center Day.
