TURLOCK, Calif. — Stan State men's basketball begins the second half of the CCAA season this week with a pair of road contests, traveling to Cal State San Marcos in Southern California on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m., before visiting Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m.
Warriors in Review
Stan State enters the week at 8–10 overall and 4–8 in CCAA play, averaging 71.1 points per game while allowing 71.2 through 18 contests. The Warriors are shooting 44.2 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range, while holding a +1.3 rebounding margin at 35.1 rebounds per game. Offensively, Donjae Lindsey leads Stan State at 13.0 points per game and paces the team with a 56.3 field-goal percentage and a 52.2 percent mark from three-point range. Malachi Johnson adds 12.4 points per game and anchors the paint with a team-high 7.6 rebounds per contest and 20 blocked shots. Mark Jones III directs the offense with a team-best 46 assists, while Lloyd French leads the Warriors in steals with 21 and contributes 9.8 points per game. From the perimeter, Jason Cibull leads the team with 25 three-pointers made, Jason Zimmer is shooting 44.2 percent from beyond the arc, and Tahjae Ordonio leads the team at the free-throw line at 93.3 percent.
Weekend Recap
Stan State went 0–2 in a tightly contested home-and-away series against UC Merced last week, dropping a 60–59 road decision on Thursday before falling 68–64 at home on Saturday inside Fitzpatrick Arena. Both games were decided by single digits, with the Warriors holding leads in each contest before UC Merced pulled ahead late. Over the two games, Stan State averaged 61.5 points per game and won the turnover margin (+5) while recording 12 assists per contest. Malachi Johnson led the Warriors with 11.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, four blocks, and three steals per game, while Daniel Ameyaw averaged 10.0 points and 6.5 rebounds. Lloyd French and Jason Cibull also chipped in 10.0 points per game, and Tahjae Ordonio provided a spark off the bench, scoring 14 points in the home matchup against UC Merced.
Double-Doubles
Malachi Johnson has recorded five double-doubles this season, beginning with an 18-point, 10-rebound performance at Menlo on Nov. 19, 2025. He added an 11-point, 11-rebound effort against Cal State Monterey Bay on Jan. 2, 2026, followed by a 14-point, 13-rebound game at Cal State LA on Jan. 8. Johnson continued the stretch with 19 points and 10 rebounds against San Francisco State on Jan. 15, and closed the run with 15 points and 11 rebounds versus Cal State East Bay on Jan. 17. Lloyd French recorded the first double-double of his career on Dec. 21, 2025 against Cal Poly Pomona, finishing with 11 points and 12 assists. Daniel Ameyaw owns nine career double-doubles, including a 14-point, 12-rebound performance against Fresno Pacific on Nov. 15, 2025.
CCAA Leaders
Stan State continues to rank among the top teams in the CCAA statistically, sitting fourth in scoring defense and assist-to-turnover ratio, while also ranking fifth in assists per game and field-goal percentage defense. The Warriors are sixth in three-point field-goal percentage, offensive rebounding, and blocked shots. Individually, Mark Jones III is tied for 10th in the CCAA in assists, while Malachi Johnson ranks fifth in the conference in blocked shots.
Cal State San Marcos Update
Cal State San Marcos enters Thursday's matchup at 10–7 overall and 7–5 in CCAA play. The Cougars average 75.3 points per game and are among the conference's top perimeter shooting teams, connecting on 36.6 percent from three-point range while making 8.5 three-pointers per game. Keavie Love leads CSUSM at 15.1 points per game, while Dexter Stratton adds 13.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest. Max Tengan and Aaron Ragen provide additional scoring threats, with Ragen shooting 54.2 percent from three. San Marcos holds a +2.5 rebounding margin and uses balanced scoring and shooting to create opportunities at The Sports Center.
Last Time vs. Cal State San Marcos
Stan State trailed by seven at halftime before erupting for 44 second-half points in a 72–68 comeback win over Cal State San Marcos on Jan. 4 in Turlock. The Warriors shot 56.5 percent in the second half and knocked down seven three-pointers, with Lloyd French and Mark Jones III scoring 15 points apiece. Jason Zimmer added 14 points, Malachi Johnson scored 11, and Jason Cibull sealed the game by going 4-for-4 at the free-throw line in the final minute as Stan State forced 17 turnovers and converted them into 26 points.
Season Series vs. Cal State San Marcos
Cal State San Marcos holds a 12–5 advantage in the all-time series and has gone 7–3 over the last 10 meetings, though Stan State has won the last two matchups. In addition to the Jan. 4 win in Turlock, the Warriors earned a 78–63 road victory in San Marcos on Feb. 20, 2025, led by 19 points from Jeremiah Jones, 15 points from Lloyd French, 12 points from Cam Walker, and 11 points from Daniel Ameyaw.
Cal State Monterey Bay Update
Cal State Monterey Bay enters the week at 11–7 overall and 6–6 in CCAA play, averaging 81.3 points per game while allowing 77.7. The Otters are one of the conference's most efficient offensive teams, shooting 44.6 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from three-point range, while making 10.2 three-pointers per game. Jaden Tengan leads CSUMB at 17.4 points per game, while Michael Mora adds 16.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest. Joey Bilello provides efficiency and perimeter shooting at 11.2 points per game while shooting 49.2 percent from three and 93.2 percent at the free-throw line, and Mezziah Oakman anchors the interior with 7.4 rebounds per game. The Otters will host UC Merced on Thursday before entering the week's matchup with Stan State at The Kelp Bed.
Last Time vs. Cal State Monterey Bay
Stan State opened the 2026 calendar year with a 79–77 comeback victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Jan. 2 at Fitzpatrick Arena. The Warriors erased an eight-point second-half deficit and surged ahead late behind 20 points from Donjae Lindsey, while Mark Jones III scored all 12 of his points in the second half. Jason Zimmer and Malachi Johnson added 11 points apiece, with Johnson pulling down 11 rebounds for a double-double. Stan State won the rebounding battle 44–40 and secured the victory when Zimmer knocked down the game-clinching free throw at the buzzer.
Season Series vs. Cal State Monterey Bay
Stan State leads the all-time series against Cal State Monterey Bay 23–19 and has won the last four meetings between the two programs. In addition to the Jan. 2 win in Turlock, the Warriors defeated the Otters 69–68 in Monterey Bay on Dec. 21, 2024, behind 19 points from William Chavarin, 12 points from Cam Walker, and 11 points from Jason Cibull.
