FRESNO, Calif. – Stan State track & field opened its outdoor season with a strong showing at the Sunbird Invitational at Ramirez Field, highlighted by provisional national qualifying marks, top-10 all-time program performances, and standout efforts across multiple event groups.
"Great performances in our first outdoor meet of the year which we are looking to expand on," said head coach Troy Johnson.
Throws Lead the Way
Alexis Nino continued her dominant run in the throws, recording a provisional national qualifying mark in the hammer throw with a toss of 175-11 (53.62m) on Friday. She followed that performance with a 46-4 (14.12m) mark in the shot put on Saturday, another provisional qualifier that ranks second in Stan State history.
On the men's side, Mason Phillips paced the hammer group with a throw of 163-5 (49.82m), while Logan Edwards (162-1) and Luke Giannotta (161-9) added strong marks. Justice McDermott delivered a standout performance in the javelin with a throw of 160-7 (48.96m), moving into the top 10 in program history.
Speed and Relays Make a Statement
Andrew Bishop turned in one of the top sprint performances of the weekend, running 21.62 in the 200 meters, which ranks seventh in Stan State history. The 4x100 relay team of Mendoza, Bishop, Miles, and Easterwood clocked 41.25, tying for fourth all-time in program history.
In the 400 meters, Andrew Bishop (49.83) and Justice McDermott (50.58) led a competitive sprint group, while Ahlia Alberghottie recorded a strong 1:04.90 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Jumps Produce Key Marks
Reyna Dismukes led the women in the horizontal jumps with a mark of 17-11 (5.46m) in the long jump and 36-3 (11.05m) in the triple jump. Eligah Lawrence highlighted the men's triple jump with a leap of 44-11 (13.69m) and added a 20-12.75 mark in the long jump.
Distance Group Adds All-Time Performances
Stevie Holguin delivered one of the top distance performances of the meet, running 10:10.81 in the 3000 meters, moving into seventh in Stan State history. In the 1500 meters, Megan Silva (4:43.33) and Holguin (4:41.66) paced the women's group, while Mason Oliveira led the men in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:30.80.
Izzy Soto ran 2:14.90 in the 800 meters to lead the women, and Austin Hein clocked 2:02.52 to pace the men.
