Stockton, Calif. — Owen Bascom fired an even-par 72 to lead Stan State after the opening 18 holes of the Visit Stockton DII Invitational at The Reserve at Spanos Park (Par 72, 7,315 yards). As a team, the Warriors sit in 18th place at 16-over 304 following Monday's first round.

Colorado State–Pueblo leads the 21-team field at 2-over 290, followed by Westminster (UT) and Dominican (CA) tied for second at 3-over 291.

Individually, Dominican's Jonathan Chen holds the clubhouse lead after carding a 4-under 68.

The final foursomes will complete their opening round Tuesday morning beginning at 7 a.m., with the final round scheduled to start at 9 a.m. following the conclusion of the first round.

Bascom's round included five birdies and strong play on the par-5s, where he averaged 4.25 (-3). He is currently tied for 15th individually.

Riley Kirk carded a 3-over 75, while Chase Bird shot 6-over 78 and Carson Diaz added a 7-over 79 to round out the Warriors' counting scores.

Ethan Gonsalves posted a 9-over 81, and Jesse Verhulst was even through 14 holes before play was suspended.

The Warriors travel to Alameda, Calif., for the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay on March 9-10 at Corica Park. Stan State then heads to Beaumont, Calif., for the Coyote Classic hosted by Cal State San Bernardino on March 23-24 at Oak Valley Golf Club.

Stan State closes out the regular season at home April 13-14, hosting the 51st Hanny Stanislaus Invitational at Turlock Golf & Country Club.
