SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Stan State track & field delivered a standout performance in the throws at the Mark Conover Classic, highlighted by a dominant showing from Alexis Nino and a top-10 all-time mark from Mason Phillips.
"Great job by our throw crew at the Conover Classic…they all competed well with some improving into our top ten performances," said head coach Troy Johnson. "Coach Ballinger and Coach Wilson have both done great jobs and we look forward to even more great performances."
Nino put together one of the top all-around performances in the nation this season, excelling across all three throwing events. She launched a 177-10 (54.20m) mark in the hammer throw, which ranks 4th nationally and meets the NCAA provisional qualifying standard. She followed with a 47-1 (14.35m) throw in the shot put, moving to 5th in the nation and No. 2 all-time in Stan State history, while also securing another provisional mark. Nino added a 127-8 (38.91m) in the discus, placing her in the top 10 in program history and completing a dominant sweep across the throws.
On the men's side, Phillips delivered a career performance in the shot put, recording a 53-6.5 (16.32m) mark to move into No. 8 all-time in Stan State history. His mark stands as one of the top performances in the conference this season and highlights his continued rise among the program's top throwers.
Phillips also contributed in the hammer (157-8 / 48.06m) and discus (139-4 / 42.48m), while Luke Giannotta added a 48-0.5 (14.64m) mark in the shot put and 166-11 (50.89m) in the hammer. Logan Edwards recorded a 164-1 (50.02m) throw in the hammer and 132-6 (40.40m) in the discus.
In the javelin, Chris Ruiz led the Warriors with a 152-11 (46.61m) throw, while Justice McDermott added a 152-6 (46.49m) mark and Joel Pitts recorded 151-2 (46.08m). Lexi Pulido paced the women's javelin group with a 100-2 (30.53m) throw.
On the women's side, Donielle Willis posted a strong all-around performance with marks of 141-3 (43.06m) in the hammer, 110-5 (33.66m) in the discus, and 39-3.25 (11.97m) in the shot put. Sienna Hawkins added throws of 118-7 (36.14m) in the hammer and 107-9 (32.85m) in the discus, while Grace Langenfield recorded a 129-1 (39.35m) mark in the hammer.
Stan State continues to build momentum in the throws as the outdoor season progresses, with multiple athletes positioning themselves among the conference and national leaders.
