Bascom Finishes Eighth as Warriors Place Fifth at Coyote Classic

BEAUMONT, Calif. — Behind a top-ten finish from Owen Bascom, the Stan State men's golf team placed fifth out of 13 teams at the Coyote Classic, posting a 17-over par total of 881 (290-293-298) at the par-72 Oak Valley Golf Club.

Bascom led the Warriors with an even-par 216 (69-75-72), finishing tied for eighth overall alongside Mario Stump of Cal State San Bernardino. Bascom recorded 10 birdies and an eagle over the three rounds.

Carson Diaz finished tied for 24th at 5-over 221 (71-77-73), joined by Ty Weaver (Chico State), Emmett Shell (Menlo) and Jacobus Brakkee (Jessup). Diaz totaled 10 birdies and an eagle.

Chase Bird placed tied for 29th at 6-over 222 (74-67-81), alongside Leo Lavalle (Colorado Mesa) and Liam Weaver (Cal State San Marcos), recording a team-best 13 birdies.

Ricky Sullivan tied for 41st at 11-over 227 (76-75-76) with Luke Wagstaff (Colorado Mesa), Kasey Gaff (Northwest Nazarene), Ty Hagen (Northwest Nazarene) and Troy Song (Cal State Dominguez Hills), totaling five birdies.

Riley Kirk rounded out the lineup in a tie for 53rd at 15-over 231 (78-76-77), alongside Jerah Venkaiya (Jessup) and Aiden Canada (Cal State San Marcos), finishing with seven birdies.

Competing as an individual, Jesse Verheul finished 72nd at 21-over 237 (72-83-82) and recorded five birdies.

Cal State San Bernardino captured the team title at 21-under 843, followed by Chico State in second (-1), Cal State Monterey Bay in third (+1), and No. 12 nationally ranked Colorado Mesa in fourth (+5), with Stan State rounding out the top five.

Individually, Kamron Hopson of Cal State San Bernardino earned medalist honors at 16-under 200.

Up Next
Stan State returns home April 13–14 to host the 51st Hanny Stanislaus Invitational at Turlock Golf & Country Club, the Warriors' only home event of the season. Following the final round, Stan State will recognize senior Chase Bird for his contributions to the program.

The Warriors then travel to Stockton for the CCAA Championships, scheduled for April 20–22 at The Reserve at Spanos Park.

Stan State will need to be ranked among the top 10 teams in the West Region to qualify for the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional, set for May 7–9 in Stockton. Selections for the NCAA Division II Championships will be announced April 26 on NCAA.com.

The NCAA Division II National Championships will follow May 18–22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
