TURLOCK, Calif. – Stan State women's tennis is set to compete in the 2026 PacWest Tennis Championships, earning the No. 8 seed and a first-round matchup against No. 1 Azusa Pacific on Wednesday, April 15 at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Club in Surprise, Arizona.
The Warriors enter the postseason with a 7-9 overall record and a 7-6 mark in PacWest play, securing one of eight spots in the championship field.
Season Overview
For Stan State, the postseason berth reflects the growth of a young team that has continued to develop throughout conference play. The Warriors have built their identity around depth across the lineup, particularly through the middle and lower courts, where they have consistently competed in tight matches.
That identity has been tested in recent weeks, as the Warriors look to reestablish their strength in those positions heading into the tournament.
Proven Against the Field
Stan State enters the PacWest Championships having faced nearly every team in the tournament field during the regular season.
The Warriors earned a signature 4-3 victory over No. 11 Hawai'i Pacific, marking the first win over the Sharks in program history. After dropping the doubles point, Stan State responded by winning four singles matches, highlighted by victories from Abbigail Mulick, Parker Orlando, Maiah White, and a match-clinching performance from Emi Mikami.
Stan State also split its season series with Dominican, earning a 4-3 win at home before falling 5-2 on the road. The Warriors pushed Fresno Pacific in a close 4-3 match earlier in the season and later competed in a 5-2 result, while facing Menlo twice in conference play.
The Warriors have not faced Point Loma or Biola this season.
Across those matchups, multiple duals were decided by narrow margins, reinforcing Stan State's ability to compete with the top teams in the conference.
First Round Matchup: Azusa Pacific
Stan State will open the tournament against top-seeded Azusa Pacific, which enters the championships with a 20-2 record and a 12-match winning streak.
The Cougars earned a 6-1 win over the Warriors in their most recent meeting in Turlock, using strong play at the top of the lineup to take control. Parker Orlando earned Stan State's lone point in the match, while Maiah White pushed her match to a third-set tiebreak before falling 10-8.
The matchup presents a contrast in strengths, as Azusa Pacific has consistently controlled matches from the top courts, while Stan State has found success through the middle and lower positions.
For the Warriors, the path to success will be clear. Reestablishing control at the lower courts and sustaining momentum in singles play will be key as they look to challenge the top seed.
Entering the Tournament
Stan State enters the postseason following a mixed stretch of results, including a 7-0 sweep of Jessup alongside matches against Fresno Pacific, Dominican, and Azusa Pacific.
Despite the results, the Warriors have continued to show the ability to compete in extended rallies and tight sets, with several matches throughout the season decided by a single point.
With experience against the conference field and a proven ability to respond in pressure moments, Stan State enters the PacWest Championships as a team capable of competing in every match.
