TURLOCK, Calif. — Stan State sits in fourth place out of 11 teams with a two-round score of 580 (+12) at the 51st Annual Hanny/Stanislaus Invitational, hosted at the par-71 Turlock Golf & Country Club.
Owen Bascom leads the Warriors and is tied for seventh at even-par 142 (72-70), pacing Stan State heading into Tuesday's final round.
No. 34 CSU San Bernardino leads the tournament at 564 (-4), followed by No. 29 Chico State (571, +3) and No. 22 Western Washington (579, +11). Individually, CSU San Bernardino's Tyler Price and Kamron Hopson along with Jessup's Braden Armstrong are tied for the tournament lead at 2-under 140.
The field features several nationally-ranked teams, including No. 34 CSU San Bernardino, No. 29 Chico State, No. 22 Western Washington, No. 48 CSU Monterey Bay and No. 26 Cal State East Bay. The Warriors currently sit ahead of both No. 48 CSU Monterey Bay and No. 26 Cal State East Bay in the team standings.
The tournament field also reflects the strength of the NCAA Division II West Region, with Western Washington (No. 1), Cal State East Bay (No. 2), CSU San Bernardino (No. 4), Chico State (No. 5), Cal State San Marcos (No. 7), CSU Monterey Bay (No. 8) and Dominican (No. 9) all ranked among the region's top 10.
The Warriors posted rounds of 292 and 288 on Monday and are just one stroke out of third place entering the final round.
Riley Kirk is tied for 10th at 1-over 143 (71-72), while
Carson Diaz is tied for 22nd at 147 (+5) after rounds of 74 and 73.
Ricky Sullivan is tied for 25th at 148 (+6) with rounds of 75 and 73, and
Chase Bird rounds out the Warriors' top five, tied for 41st at 150 (+8) after shooting 76 and 74.
Competing as individuals,
Jesse Verheul is tied for 61st at 155 (+13) with rounds of 79 and 76, while
Ethan Gonsalves is tied for 65th at 159 (+17) after rounds of 81 and 78.
The third and final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday with a shotgun start. The Warriors will be paired on holes 5-8 alongside golfers from Jessup and CSU Monterey Bay, while individuals
Jesse Verheul and
Ethan Gonsalves will tee off on hole 18 with competitors from Chico State, Jessup, Cal State East Bay and Menlo.
Following the conclusion of the final round, the tournament will host an awards ceremony, and Stan State will also hold its Senior Day ceremony recognizing senior
Chase Bird.
As a team, the Warriors improved by four strokes in the second round and will look to carry that momentum into the final round on their home course.

Stan State will head to Stockton for the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships, set for April 20-22 at The Reserve at Spanos Park.
