Men’s Golf Competes at 51st Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, Honors Chase Bird on Senior Day

TURLOCK, Calif. — Led by Owen Bascom, the Stan State men's golf team competed at the 51st Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, finishing ninth in an 11-team field at the par-71 Turlock Golf and Country Club while facing several nationally ranked programs.

Stan State opened the tournament with a 292 and followed with a 288 in round two before closing with a 303 on Tuesday against a competitive field that included No. 22 Western Washington, No. 26 Cal State East Bay, No. 29 Chico State, No. 34 Cal State San Bernardino, and No. 48 CSU Monterey Bay.

Bascom paced the Warriors with a tie for 12th overall, finishing at 216 (+3) with rounds of 72, 70, and 74. Carson Diaz was next for Stan State, tying for 21st at 220 (+7) with rounds of 74, 73, and 73. Riley Kirk placed tied for 31st at 222 (+9), posting rounds of 71, 72, and 79. Ricky Sullivan finished tied for 47th at 225 (+12) with rounds of 75, 73, and 77, while Chase Bird rounded out the lineup in 58th at 229 (+16) with rounds of 76, 74, and 79.

Cal State San Bernardino claimed the team title after winning a playoff against Chico State. Both teams finished tied at 844 (-8), with CSUSB shooting three-under on the playoff hole compared to Chico State's two-under. CSU Monterey Bay, ranked No. 48 nationally, placed third at 869 (+17).

Individually, Chico State's Vineet Vallamsetty earned medalist honors at 208 (-5), followed by Cal State San Bernardino's Kamron Hopson at 209 (-4). Chico State's Naoki Easterday and CSU East Bay's Peyton Hendricks tied for third at 211 (-2).

Stan State also had two individuals compete, with Jesse Verheul finishing 62nd at 236 (+23) with rounds of 79, 76, and 81, and Ethan Gonsalves placing 66th at 241 (+28) with rounds of 81, 78, and 82.

Following the final round, the program recognized senior Chase Bird with a Senior Day ceremony, honoring his contributions to the Stan State men's golf program.

Stan State will travel to Stockton for the CCAA Championships, set for April 20–22 at The Reserve at Spanos Park. The same course will also host the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional on May 7–9. The NCAA Division II National Championships are scheduled for May 18–22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada. The complete field for the NCAA Championships will be announced on April 26 on NCAA.com.
