Men’s Golf Set for CCAA Championships in Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. — The Stan State men's golf team will compete April 20–22 at the CCAA Championships at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif. The three-day tournament begins with first and second rounds on Monday and Tuesday at 9:40 a.m., followed by Wednesday's final round with an 8 a.m. start. The winner of the CCAA Championships will receive the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Championships.

Season in Review
Stan State has competed in nine events during the 2025–26 season, highlighted by a fifth-place finish at the Coyote Classic and an eighth-place showing at the Chico State Wildcat Classic where the Warriors posted a 4-under team score. The Warriors also recorded a 10th-place finish at the CSU San Marcos Fujikura Invitational and have consistently faced strong competition throughout the West Region schedule.

Most recently, Stan State finished ninth at the 51st Hanny Stanislaus Invitational after sitting in fourth place through two rounds. The Warriors have competed against several nationally ranked programs throughout the season, gaining valuable experience heading into the postseason.

Warriors Close Regular Season at Hanny Invitational
Stan State is coming off a ninth-place finish at the 51st Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, posting rounds of 292-288-303 at Turlock Golf & Country Club against a field that featured multiple nationally ranked programs. The Warriors were in fourth place heading into Tuesday's final round. Owen Bascom led Stan State with a tie for 12th at 3-over 216, while Carson Diaz (220) and Riley Kirk (222) each finished inside the top 35. Ricky Sullivan (225) and Chase Bird (229) rounded out the lineup, as the Warriors wrapped up the regular season on their home course.

Warriors by the Numbers
Stan State enters the CCAA Championships with a team scoring average of 296.7, including a 290.7 average in conference play. Owen Bascom has led the Warriors this season with a 73.65 scoring average, followed by Riley Kirk (74.50), Ricky Sullivan (74.96) and Carson Diaz (75.08), giving Stan State a balanced lineup heading into postseason play.

Chase Bird has added a 75.46 scoring average across 23 rounds, while Jesse Verheul (78.13) and Ethan Gonsalves (78.91) have also contributed valuable rounds throughout the season. As a group, the Warriors have shown consistency across all three rounds, positioning themselves to compete against a strong CCAA field this week.

At the CCAA Championships, Stan State will be represented by Owen Bascom, Riley Kirk, Carson Diaz, Ricky Sullivan and Chase Bird, with Jesse Verheul serving as the alternate.

Tournament Field
The CCAA Championships feature a seven-team field including Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State East Bay, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State San Marcos, Chico State and Stan State.
Among the field, Cal State East Bay is ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division II West Region, followed by Cal State San Bernardino (No. 4), Chico State (No. 5), Cal State San Marcos (No. 7) and Cal State Monterey Bay (No. 8), highlighting the depth of competition at this year's championship.

The top 10 teams from both the West and South Central regions will advance to the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional.

Selections for the NCAA Division II Championships will be announced April 26 on NCAA.com. The NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional is scheduled for May 7–9 at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif., followed by the NCAA Division II National Championships May 18–22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.

Pairings
Stan State will be paired with Cal State San Marcos and Cal State Dominguez Hills for the first round.  Ricky Sullivan will tee off at 9:40 a.m. followed by Chase Bird at 9:51 a.m., Carson Diaz at 10:02 a.m., Riley Kirk at 10:13 a.m., and Owen Bascom at 10:24 a.m.

According to the latest SCOREBOARD (sponsored by clippd) national rankings, Chico State leads the CCAA field at No. 26, followed by Cal State East Bay (No. 30) and Cal State San Bernardino (No. 31). Cal State Monterey Bay also sits inside the top 50 at No. 49.

CCAA Championships History
Stan State has a strong tradition at the CCAA Championships, capturing conference titles in 2013-14, 2006-07 and 2000-01, while also winning the 2014-15 and 2016-17 championships during the match play era. The Warriors have consistently been in the mix over the years, recording multiple top-three finishes and most recently placing sixth in 2025 and fifth in 2024.

Individually, Stan State has produced several standout performances at the championships, including Chris Chomyn earning All-Tournament Team honors in each of the past three seasons with top-five finishes.

Last Year's CCAA Championships
Stan State finished sixth at the 2025 CCAA Men's Golf Championships, held at Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara, Calif., posting a three-round total of 38-over par 902 (303-302-297). Chris Chomyn led the Warriors with a 1-over 217, finishing in a tie for fourth to earn All-Tournament Team honors for the third consecutive year.  Cal State East Bay captured the team title at 16-over 880, followed by Cal State Monterey Bay and Sonoma State, while the Pioneers' Cooper Grohart earned medalist honors at 1-under 215.
