NEW ORLEANS, La.---The Stan State women's cross country team, under the guidance of head coach
Darren Holman, moved up one spot to tie for No. 11 in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll.
The Warriors received 155 points to match Lewis for 11th nationally. Stan State is also ranked No. 2 in the West Region behind No. 6 Chico State.
Stan State is one of three CCAA teams ranked nationally. Chico State is No. 6, Cal Poly Pomona is No. 21 and Cal State Monterey Bay is receiving votes.
The Warriors climbed in the national rankings following their performance at the Kim Duyst Twilight, where they captured their second consecutive team championship with 22 points. Stan State placed four runners among the top five and all five scorers among the top nine, finishing 11 points ahead of NCAA Division I UC Santa Barbara.
Sophomore
Stevie Holguin won the women's 6K in 20:41.4, finishing 3.5 seconds ahead of UC Santa Barbara's Jordin Lieberman. Holguin was named the FloCollege/CCAA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Stan State will return to competition at the Bronco Invite on Saturday, Oct. 17. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
