PHOENIX --- The Cal State Stanislaus softball team ended a long, wet and cold Friday by defeating New Mexico Highlands, 6-2, in a contest that ended just before midnight local time. With the win, CSUS evened its weekend record to 2-2 at the Schutt Sports Leadoff Classic.

Britney Borba -- who made her debut as the team's lead-off batter earlier on Friday -- got the Warriors on the board with her first homer in the bottom of the first. And that was plenty for ace Jessica Gaumnitz as she made another strong start for the win.

Gaumnitz, who had a no-hitter on Friday, held NMHU without a hit until two outs in the fifth. She finished with a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits and struck out nine to improve to 2-1 on the season. Gaumnitz was dominate in the first five innings, striking out eight out of the first 15 batters she faced.

Kimiko Wright belted her second home run of the tournament with a two-out blast to right-center field to give Stanislaus a 6-0 lead in the fifth.

Alicia Reid went 3-for-3 and Alyssa Guzman had two hits to pace the Warrior offense.

In an earlier game on Friday, Borba, a transfer from Modesto Junior College, went 2-for-4 with a double as the lead-off batter for the first time.

The late game was originally scheduled for a 9 p.m. start, but earlier rain delays and seeding calculations by the tournament staff pushed back the start of bracket play by an hour. The CSUS-NMHU game started at 9:50 p.m. local time and ended at 11:50.

Cal State Stanislaus will face Washburn at 2 p.m. on Saturday to continue play in the bronze bracket of the tournament.
