TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus softball team's offense was a little quite on day one of Tournament of Champions presented by Mizuno, but the Warriors managed to go 1-1 on Friday to start pool play.

Warrior starter Jessica Gaumnitz won her seventh straight start in the second game on Friday, blanking Hawaii Pacific 1-0 to help her team with the split. Gaumnitz and the Warriors handed HPU just their second loss of the season in the win. Gaumnitz allowed just four hits and fanned seven and improved to 10-4.

Cal State Stanislaus, now 16-16 overall, got a RBI single from Casey Stephenson in the first inning to score Britney Borba. Borba had walked and stole second to start the rally. That run proved to be the only run the Warriors needed for the win. The only time HPU (25-2) threatened to get on the board was the sixth when Laine Shikuma led off with a single and Casey Sugihara also singled with two outs, but Gaumnitz got a pop-up and a strike out to end the inning.

Stephenson finished with two of the team's five hits in the game versus Hawaii Pacific.

In an earlier game, Grand Canyon rallied for three runs -- two in the fifth and one in the sixth -- to surprise the Warriors 3-1.

Cal State Stanislaus took a 1-0 lead in the second with a solo home run by Jen Arnold. GCU however, got tworuns back in the fifth on a Michelle Farrell single and Tana Holtorf sac fly. Yasmeen Watkins hit a solo homer in the sixth to make it 3-1.

Arnold gave up three runs -- two unearned -- on six hits for the loss. CSUS managed four other hits, all singles, with Arnold going 2-for-3 for the game.
