TURLOCK -- Junior left fielder Kyle Loretelli made sure the Warriors started the weekend off right by sending a 1-0 pitch deep into the evening sky for a game-winning homerun that gave No. 23 Cal State Stanislaus a 3-2 walk-off victory Friday over No. 16 Chico State in the first game of a four-game set.

Loretelli led off the ninth inning just looking to make contact and get on base to start a rally with the score tied 2-2. Instead, Loretelli made perfect contact and drove Wildcat starter Pete Mickartz's second pitch of the inning over the wall in center field to give the Warriors their eighth win in their last at-bat.

With the win, Cal State Stanislaus move to 15-4 overall and 8-1 in the CCAA. Chico State falls to 12-5 and 5-3 in the CCAA. Cal State Stanislaus has now won 10 of its last 11 games and currently has a four-game winning streak. The Warriors have now taken three of the last five games from Chico State dating back to last season.

It was freshman starter Andrew Stueve who gave the Warriors a solid start and held the Wildcats scoreless until the seventh inning. Stueve pitched seven innings, scattering five hits, striking out one and allowing just one run.

Warrior closer Andrew Troncale picked up his third win of the season in relief after coming in to get the final out in the top of the ninth. Troncale replaced Andrew DeMott who threw 1 2/3 innings. DeMott replaced Josh Lewis in the eighth after Lewis faced one batter.

Loretelli went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. Dante Palacios went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Josh Meagher went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Chico State offensively.

The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when the designated hitter Palacios led off the inning with a single and made it all the way to third base via a throwing error and a stolen base. Palacios would score on a groundout to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Dennis Wolfe then hit his first homerun of the season down the left field line, barely clearing the fence for a 2-0 Warrior lead.

Chico State came alive in the seventh inning when Shane Farmer hit a one-out single. Farmer moved to second on a balk by Stueve, went to third on a single by Kyle Eveland and scored on a fielder's choice, making the score 2-1. Chico State tied the game 2-2 in the eighth when Meagher singled home Travis DeCoito.

The loss is Mickartz's first of the season as he falls to 5-1. Chico State's four-game winning streak is snapped. The series between the two teams continues on Saturday at Warrior Field with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. The series finale is on Sunday at Warrior Field with first pitch slated for noon.
