TURLOCK -- Senior catcher Tom Long continued his late-season hot streak Tuesday by hitting two homeruns for four RBIs to lead the Warriors over Patten University, 11-5, in a non-conference game at Warrior Field.

Long's 2-for-5 day added to his 8-for-15 streak over his last four games. He has six RBIs, five runs scored, three doubles and two homeruns in that stretch. Since beginning the Cal State Dominguez Hills series on April 11, Long has batted .414, with 11 RBIs to raise his season batting average from .197 to .263, a 66-point jump.

The win ties the Cal State Stanislaus record for wins in a season at the NCAA Division II level, moving the Warriors' overall record to 31-16. Both the 1991 and 2006 squads won 31 games. The school record for wins is 35, set by the 1977 national championship team and the 1982 national runner-up team.

Long's first homerun was a solo shot that came with two outs in the second inning to put the Warriors up 2-0 after they took a 1-0 lead in the first. The team would add one more run via a Dennis Wolfe infield single to go up 3-0.

Patten would get a run in the top of the third to cut the lead to 3-1, but an RBI double by Leandro Dottavio in the bottom of the fourth put the Warriors back up by three runs, 4-1. The hit extended Dottavio's hitting streak to seven games.

Head coach Kenny Leonesio went with a pitcher-by-committee strategy for the mid-week non-conference game, starting with reliever Jeff Harter. Harter threw three innings and struck out five while allowing one run on two hits, and was in line for the win until Patten got going offensively in the sixth and seventh innings.

After a leadoff single given up by replacement pitcher Andrew Troncale, Joshua Harrell singled to left field with one out. Kyle Loretelli over ran the ball to allow a run to score, making the score 4-2. A two-out RBI single by Patten catcher Joe Salazar made the score 4-3.

In the seventh, new pitcher Eric Federico would surrender a one-out single and find himself with a runner on third after an attempted throw-out on a stolen base sailed into center field, allowing the runner to advance. A walk, an RBI double and a sacrifice fly gave the Lions their first lead of the game at 5-4.

The Warrior bats finally came alive in the bottom of the eighth after getting just two hits in the previous three innings. A total of seven runs were scored, capped by Long's second homerun of the day, a three-run shot to left field that gave the Warriors an 11-5 lead.

Andrew DeMott earned the victory to move to 3-2 on the season. He threw two innings and surrendered just two hits, ending the game with a 4-6-3 double play.

The Warriors dive back into California Collegiate Athletic Association play at noon Saturday in a doubleheader against first place Sonoma State in Rohnert Park. The four-game series will move to Warrior Field on Sunday with a doubleheader starting at noon.
