BEAUMONT --
Jessica Gaumnitz and the Warriors softball team picked up where they left off as Cal State Stanislaus completed a twinbill sweep that took an extra day to finish.
The No. 14 ranked Warriors defeated Cal State San Bernardino 11-3 in the continuation of Friday's opener that was halted due to rain. The Warriors then beat the Coyotes 5-3 for the sweep, taking three of four games from the conference series.
"Our team kept the focus on the games rather than the weather," CSUS head coach
Jan Schefkowitz said. "The conditions were below 40 degrees with wind."
Cal State Stanislaus improves to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State San Bernardino is 4-9 overall and 1-3 in CCAA play.
Friday's opener was suspended due to rain with the Warriors leading 4-2 in the top of the fourth inning after a
Britney Borba two-run home run.
When play resumed on Sunday,
Kimiko Wright hit a two-run shot in the fifth and
Ashlee Genseal followed it with her own two-run homer in the sixth to lead the Warriors attack.
In the nightcap, senior pitcher Gaumnitz tossed a six-hit complete game to earn her third win of the weekend. She struck out seven Coyotes in the game two 5-3 win.
"(Gaumnitz) competed like a champion and came through every inning. We had timely hitting throughout the lineup especially
Britney Borba. She's doing a great job of waiting for her pitch."
Borba again hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to provide the difference for the Warriors. Jennie Arnold had a two-run double in the fifth and
Erica McIntyre went 2-for-3 to lead the Stanislaus offense.
Borba belted three home runs in as many games over the weekend and drove in seven runs. As a team, the Warriors had five home runs and batted .305 as a team against CSUSB.
Cal State Stanislaus will have next weekend off before taking on San Francisco State for a four-game set Feb. 27-28 in San Francisco.
