TURLOCK — Jennie Arnold provided the power in the first game and used her pitching arm in the second as Arnold and the Warriors went 2-0 at the Mizuno Best of the West Invitational on Saturday at Pedretti Sports Complex.

Arnold went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in the 5-1 win over Sonoma State, then pitched a strong second game in the 6-4 win over Central Washington as No. 14 Cal State Stanislaus improved to 4-0 on the season. The 14-team tournament continues on Sunday at Pedretti Park with 14 more games.

In the opener, Arnold's two-run home run in the fifth inning opened up a tight game to give Stanislaus a 3-0 lead against the Seawolves. Sonoma State starter Brittany Reynolds was pitching a no-hit shutout through the first three innings before reliever Lindsay Emmel started the fourth. Against Emmel, the Warriors went to work offensively, knocking her around for five runs on six hits.

Britney Borba also homered for CSUS and Meghan Franksen singled in a run in the fourth to start the Warriors' scoring.

Stanislaus starter Jessica Gaumnitz was again in control, allowing one run on three hits in seven innings. She struck out eight and walked three in her second start of the season.

In the second game, Arnold took the pitching duties and was strong. She allowed two runs to Central Washington in the fourth as the Wildcats led 2-0 until a huge sixth inning for the Warriors. Cal State Stanislaus needed just two hits — both two-run doubles — to highlight the frame. Borba doubled to right to score two and Nikky Rissetto knocked in two runs with another double to right.

In all six different Warriors picked up a hit in game two.

Arnold went 5 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts to pick up her second win of the year in as many starts.

Cal State Stanislaus plays the defending national champion and second-ranked Humboldt State in a 1:30 p.m. tilt before taking on Davis and Elkins at 3:45 p.m.
