2/8/2009 6:50:13 PM

TURLOCK -- As is the nature of baseball, where anything can happen, Cal State Stanislaus began Sunday ready for anything against St. Martin's. Six homeruns, 24 hits and 24 runs later, the Warriors had a four-game weekend sweep of St. Martin's with a 14-1 victory in game one and a 10-0 shutout victory in game two at Warrior Field.

The Warriors outscored the Saints 45-12 over the weekend, pounding out 43 hits, including 10 homeruns. The Warriors outscored the Saints 28-1 over the final three games of the series with two shutouts. Sunday's doubleheader sweep moves the Warriors' record to 4-1 overall. St. Martin's falls to 0-4.

Game one began as a pitching duel. Cal State Stanislaus' Andrew Stueve threw seven innings of scoreless ball, giving up seven hits and striking out four to get his first win of the year. The Warriors got unearned runs in the first and third innings to go up 2-0 heading into the sixth. At that point, St. Martin's Mat Nelson had thrown five innings, giving up just two hits and striking out five with no earned runs.

The Warriors got hot in the sixth, though, as Zach Cadet led off with a double and was sacrificed over to third by Jacob Thelen. Cadet would score on a wild pitch, but back-to-back singles by Kyle Loretelli and Leandro Dottavio put two men on with one out. A Seth Hudson sacrifice fly made the score 4-0, and then an RBI double by Jake Oketani, followed by a two-run homerun by Jeff Hughes, put the Warriors up 7-0.

Loretelli went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored in the game. Dottavio was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Matt Marcoe led the Saints offensively with a 2-for-3 showing in game one.

Cal State Stanislaus added three runs in the seventh and four more runs in the eighth, as a number of bench players got some at-bats and continued the Warriors' offensive streak. St. Martin's got their lone run in the top of the eighth on an RBI groundout by Zach Leonard.

The Warriors hit a whopping five homeruns in game two, including two off the bat of Tomas Donnelly. Donnelly finished the day 4-for-4 with two homeruns, five RBIs and two runs scored. Doug Porras got his first hit of the season with a three-run homerun in the fourth inning. Joseph Pilatti and Alex Zanini also went deep in the game.

The Warriors hit three homeruns in the second inning alone. Pilatti led off with a solo shot on the first pitch of the inning. A batter later, Donnelly hit his first of two homers on a 1-2 count, and with two outs Zanini hit his first long ball of the season.

Derek Eaton went five innings, giving up four hits and striking out three to win game two. Eric Federico threw two solid innings of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out three. Kevin Jones took the loss for St. Martin's after allowing six earned runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings pitched.

The Warriors will continue their early season non-conference schedule at home with a four-game set against Central Washington on Friday and Saturday. Friday will feature a doubleheader against the Wildcats beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday's doubleheader will also start at 11 a.m. The Warriors swept Central Washington in four games at Warrior Field in 2008.
