SEASIDE -- With two swings of the bat Friday afternoon, senior center fielder Kyle Loretelli not only helped his team to a 14-3 win over Cal State Monterey Bay at the CSUMB Baseball/Softball Complex, but he statistically became the greatest homerun hitter of all time at Cal State Stanislaus.

Loretelli hit a solo homerun to dead center field over the 400-foot mark in the fourth inning, his 10th of the season and 22nd of his career, to cut a 2-0 deficit in half. Then in the ninth inning, with his team leading 13-3, Loretelli hit a ball over the right-center fence that broke the Cal State Stanislaus all-time career record for homeruns with 23, previously held by Rusty Kuntz, who collected 22 homers from 1976-77, the Warriors' NCAA Division III national championship years.

The win moves the Warriors' record to 18-9 overall and 10-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Otters fall to 7-25 overall and 3-14 in CCAA play. The Warriors are now 7-0 in Seaside against Cal State Monterey Bay and are 12-1 all-time against the Otters.

After striking out the side in the first inning, Warriors starter Dakota Watts ran into trouble in the second inning, giving up two runs on an RBI double by Andrew Marquardt and a sacrifice fly from Jacob Flores. Watts ran into trouble again in the third inning, facing runners on the corners with one out and men on second and third with two outs, but he was able to get out of the jam unscathed.

Watts would earn the victory, his seventh of the season, after striking out nine and scattering seven hits in seven innings pitched. Friday was Watts' first start in a nine-inning game this season. Andrew Troncale and Josh Lewis pitch an inning each in relief of Watts to preserve the win.

The Warriors' offense would wake up in the fifth inning, as they scored four runs on five hits and an error. Doug Porras gave the Warriors a lead they would not relinquish with a towering two-run homerun over the right field fence to get the rally going.

Jacob Thelen would not be left out of the fun, as he would go deep twice in his final two at-bats of the game, both on the first pitch he saw. The Warriors hit a total of five homeruns and banged out 20 total hits. Cal State Monterey Bay finished with seven hits and four errors.

The middle of the lineup was the catalyst for the Warriors' offense, as Loretelli, Thelen and Jake Oketani went a combined 10-for-17 with seven RBIs and nine runs scored. Loretelli was 4-for-6, Thelen was 3-for-5 and Oketani was 3-for-6.

After Loretelli's solo homerun in the fourth, the Warriors scored in every inning but the sixth. Joseph Pilatti went 2-for-5 with an RBI, Jeff Hughes was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Chase Perez was 2-for-5 with a run scored.

The four-game series moves to Turlock Saturday for a doubleheader, with first pitch scheduled for noon. The series finale will be played in Seaside on Sunday.
