TURLOCK -- Saturday the Warriors baseball team continued their effort of getting back on the winning track by banging out 30 hits and scoring 24 runs in an 11-3, 13-1 doubleheader sweep of Cal State Monterey Bay at Warrior Field.

Cal State Stanislaus has now reached the 20-win plateau in 2009 with the doubleheader sweep. The Warriors are now 20-9 overall and 12-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, moving them back into the CCAA's top four. The Otters fall to 7-27 overall and 3-16 in the CCAA.

Ryan Silver and Chase Perez led the Warriors offensively throughout the day. Silver finished 4-for-6 with a double and triple in the two games, and Perez was 5-for-8 with four runs scored, raising his batting average to .432. David Contreras had four hits in the doubleheader, including two doubles, and drove in seven runs on the day. Jake Oketani was 4-for-8 with a homerun, double and three runs scored.

Spencer Snodgrass started game one and came away with the win, moving his record to 4-2. He struck out six and walked just one, scattering eight hits and giving up two runs in seven innings pitched. Matt Costa relieved Snodgrass and gave up a solo homerun to Matt DeJesus on his second pitch of the game, but settled down to finish the game with three strikeouts.

The Warriors jumped on the Otters early with four runs in the bottom of the first to go ahead 4-0. They would lead by as much as 8-0 before the Otters got two runs in the top of the seventh, but the Warriors got those runs back and more in the bottom half of the inning, tacking on three more runs to take an 11-2 lead.

The Warriors would finish with 16 hits in the game. All nine of the Warriors strikeouts against Cal State Monterey Bay were looking. Three Cal State Monterey Bay players finished with multiple-hit games in the doubleheader opener. Shea Davis, Daniel Barras and DeJesus all had two hits each.

Andrew Stueve would also move his season record to 4-2 with a complete-game seven-inning victory in game two. Stueve struck out six and walked just one while scattering eight hits and giving up no earned runs. He was helped by 14 more hits by his team and 13 runs of support.

The game was moving along quickly after the Warriors got three runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead, but it would slow down in the bottom of the sixth. The Warriors got 10 runs on eight hits, three free passes and an error in the inning to go ahead 13-0 and get plenty of insurance runs headed into the top of the seventh.

The Otters would piece together three straight hits of their own in their final inning to break the shutout with an unearned run, scoring pinch hitter Ryan Chagonjian, who reached on a throwing error by Seth Hudson after he had struck out swinging.

Through three games in the series, the Warriors have outscored Cal State Monterey Bay 38-7 and have collected 50 hits. Cal State Stanislaus has stranded 24 other runners that didn't come around to score, and the pitching staff has a 2.16 ERA in the series. Both teams will head back to Seaside Sunday for the series finale scheduled for noon.
