TURLOCK — Excellent pitching and clutch hitting resulted in two wins on Friday as the Cal State Stanislaus softball team swept visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills with two well-rounded performances.

Jessica Gaumnitz shut-down the Toros in game one and timely hitting gave the Warriors a 5-0 game one win. Stanislaus then rallied for a 3-1 victory in game two to complete the doubleheader sweep. Cal State Stanislaus, looking for a strong finish with an outside shot of making the conference tournament, improved to 28-18 overall and 15-15 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Cal State Stanislaus is still mathematically in the hunt for a berth in the conference tournament, April 30-May 2, in Stockton. Another twinbill sweep over CSUDH on Saturday, coupled with at least one loss for UC San Diego, or a San Francisco State sweep over Sonoma State, could allow the Warriors to qualify for the postseason event.

Cal State Monterey Bay swept UC San Diego while Sonoma State and San Francisco State split on Friday.

After retiring nine straight Warriors, Dominguez Hills (35-21, 17-13 CCAA) starter Regina Farfan ran into trouble in the fourth inning in game one. Erica McIntyre singled to started the Warrior rally and advanced to second on a bunt. With two outs, Ashlee Genseal extended the inning with an infield single and stole second. But unlike last weekend, when the Warriors struggled with runners on base, Jennifer Arnold hit a hard roller up the middle to score two runs to put Stanislaus ahead.

Alyssa Guzman would hit her second home run of the season to deep center-field in the fifth inning, which followed a leadoff single by Britney Borba, to give CSUS a 4-0 lead. Stanislaus would tag on another score later in the fifth for the final count.

That was all Gaumnitz needed as she put away the Toros. CSUDH had two runners on in both the sixth and seventh innings, but Gaumnitz induced two fly balls in each rally to end the inning. Gaumnitz improved to 16-7 on the season with the six-hit shutout and with two strikeouts moved closer to career strikeout No. 500. She now needs just three more on Senior Day to reach that milestone.

In the nightcap, the Toros went ahead 1-0 in the third when Katie Garcia doubled to left-center to plate Katie Jordan who had singled. But that was all starter Arnold would give up in a strong outing. She would retire 11 of the next 13 batters, including getting out of a jam in the fifth. In the CSUDH fifth and runners at second and third and two outs, Arnold got Khryssi Steele to strike out to end the inning.

The Warriors rallied for three runs in the sixth for the comeback win. The rally was once again started by McIntyre, who fisted off an outside pitch past the second baseman to extend her personal hitting streak to nine games. After moving over on a bunt, McIntyre would score on a single to center by Meghan Franksen with Franksen moving all the way to third on the throw. Genseal then scored Franksen on a loop single to left. Pinch runner Adrienne Sorenson later scored the third run on a single to right by Kimiko Wright.

Arnold picked up the win with the five-hitter. She went six innings and struck out two to improve to 10-7. Gaumnitz pitched the seventh and earned her third save of the year.

Saturday's season finale doubleheader between the Warriors and the Toros begins at 11 a.m. Six Warrior seniors — Gaumnitz, Franksen, Wright, Guzman, Borba and Sorenson -- will be recognized on senior day.
