TURLOCK — A five-run inning for Fresno Pacific turned out to be the difference as the Cal State Stanislaus baseball team opened the 2010 season with a 11-7 loss to the Sunbirds on Monday.

David Contreras and Doug Porras both homered and the Warriors pounded out 13 hits but committed three errors to drop to 0-1 on the season. Contreras went 3-for-4 and Vince Hungerford also had three hits to lead the hit-parade.

Fresno Pacific's top five batters in its lineup each had two hits and combined to go 10-for-23 and drove in eight runs. FPU is ranked No. 9 in the NAIA preseason coaches poll. The Sunbirds won a regional and advanced to the NAIA World Series last spring.

Case Rigby went 2-for-5 and drove in three runs, including a two-run triple in the first. Alec Mehrten homered and drove in two runs in the second as part of FPU's 14-hit total.

Sean Cunningham got the win for the Sunbird (1-0) in relief. He pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up three hits against no runs.

Stanislaus, pitching by comittee on the day, sent out six hurlers on the day. Andrew Stueve pitched the first 1 2/3 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits for the loss. The final two pitchers, Derek Eaton and Eric Cendejas, each tossed two shutout innings and were effective. Eaton gave up a single to left and the duo combined to strike out four batters.

Trailing 5-1 in the third, Porras belted a three-run homer to right center field to pulled the Warriors within one. After each team scored a run in the fourth, FPU capitalized on two CSUS errors and used four singles to score five times in the fifth for a 11-5 lead.

The Warriors tagged on a run in each of the final two innings, including a solo homer by Contreras, to cut the deficit. Casey Filkins drove in Hungerford in the ninth with an one-out single for CSUS's final run.

Next up for Cal State Stanislaus is a four-game home series this weekend against Academy of Art. Game one of the four-game set is Friday at 2 p.m.
