TURLOCK -- Cal State Monterey Bay, the defending conference tournament champions, had 16 extra-base hits in the doubleheader en route to a pair of 12-3 mercy-run wins over Cal State Stanislaus at Pedretti Sports Complex on Friday.
The twinbill is the start of the California Collegiate Athletic Association season as the Warriors dropped to 1-4-1 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA.
Jenny Montez had four hits -- three doubles and a triple -- and Nicole Garcia also went 4-for-7 with a double to lead the Otters offense as CSU Monterey Bay improved to 3-1, 2-0 in the CCAA.
Collectively, CSUMB scattered 11 doubles, two triples and belted three home runs with a total of 24 hits in the twinbill. As a team the Otters bated .453 against Warriors pitching. Shae Olds homered twice for the Otters.
The Warriors avoided a shutout in the first game, trailing 12-0, in the home half of the fifth.
Erica McIntyre doubles and came around to score on a passed ball and wild pitch. After a
Jennifer Arnold walk and a
Missy Corral pop-up,
Ashton Brown belted a two-run homer to make it 12-3.
Stanislaus would load the bases but a strikeout and another infield pop-up ended the game as the Warriors stranded a total of 10 runners on base.
CSUMB used an 8-run second inning for a 10-0 lead to chase Stanislaus starter Arnold (1-2).
In the nightcap, Monterey Bay scored in every inning to lead 10-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Cassandra Carlos singled in
Sloan Hanna and
Nikky Rissetto, who had singled, came around to score on an error to make it 10-3.
Seven different Warriors each had a hit in the doubleheader with Brown delivering the only extra-base hit with her first homer of her career.
These two teams will play two more on Saturday with first pitch at Noon at the Pedretti Sports Complex. This weekend's home games were moved to the city complex due to wet field on the Warriors home turf on campus.
