BELMONT -- Freshman hurler Brittani Weatherford pitched a gem to earn her first collegiate victory as the Warriors picked up a doubleheader split at Notre Dame de Namur on Thursday.

Weatherford allowed just two hits in the non-conference twinbill opener and struck out seven in the complete game victory as the Warriors (2-11-1) beat the Argonauts 3-0. In the nightcap, NDNU (3-7) scored six runs in the seventh to win 7-4.

After Weatherford allowed a single in the first inning and walked two in the second, she retired the next eight before giving up a single in the fifth. The freshman from Stockton then retired the final eight batters to close out the game.

The gem turned out to be Weatherford's second straight strong outing. She tossed a four-hitter and struckout nine in last Saturday's 2-0 loss at San Francisco State. She already has 38 strikeouts in 41 innings of work this season.

With the game scoreless in the seventh, Brittany Balanesi delivered the big blow with a two-run triple to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. Jennifer Arnold had led off the inning with a single and stole second. Cassandra Carlos then reached on an error and with one out, Balanesi took a 1-1 pitch for a three-bagger to score both Arnold and Carlos.

Balanesi then came around to score on a single by Nikky Rissetto to make it 3-0.

In game two, the Warriors scored early and took a 2-0 lead after two innings. After NDNU scored a run in the fourth, Stanislaus responded with two more scores in the fifth. Sarah Locarnini drove in Carols with a triple and scored on a single by Missy Corral.

With a 4-1 lead entering the home half of the seventh, starter Arnold run into triple allowing a leadoff single, a home run and another single before registering an out. Then with two outs and a tied score of 4-4, Carli Leary belted a three-run walkoff homer to lift NDNU.

Locarnini finished with a 3-for-4 game with a double and triple. Carlos had two hits and drove in a run to lead Stanislaus. Arnold suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings to fall to 1-6.
