Turlock - For the second consecutive day the Warrior offense exploded en route to a double header sweep of Academy of Art University 17-2 and 10-0 at Warrior Field. With the win the Warriors move their record to 3-1, while the Urban Knights drop to 0-3.
Cal State Stanislaus got off to a fast start on the day, scoring five runs in the bottom have of the first inning in game one.
Vince Hungerford highlighted the inning with a three-run home run. At the end of three innings the Warriors had an 8-0 lead and then cruised the rest of the way.
Vinny Pacchetti picked up his first win of the year going five innings giving up two unearned runs, while striking out six.
Andrew Stueve finished the game with four strong innings of work, striking out an impressive, nine Urban Knights. Hungerford finished with three hits and four runs batted in.
Alex Zanini notched two hits and collected three RBI. Freshman
Colton Beatty also had a big game going 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and four RBI's.
In game two, the Warriors got a strong start from senior
Eric Cendejas who went four innings surrendering just three hits and striking out six.
Casey Filkins collected three hits and the 3, 4, 5 hitters in the Warrior lineup, Hungerford, Filkins and Joey Blakeley, each tallied two RBI's.
On the day 13 different Warriors collected at least one hit, while nine different players collected at least one run batted in. The Warriors pounded out 44 hits in the three game series and limited the Urban Knights to just eight.
The Warriors will be on the road next weekend to take on Division II power Southern Florida, who is ranked #2 nationally by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. They will return home February 26 for a CCAA match up with Cal State East Bay. First pitch is scheduled for 2 pm.
