Andrew Stueve and
Kory Wallace both pitched strong games as the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors swept a pair of CCAA baseball games from Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.
Stueve, and reliever
Derek Goblirsch, allowed six runs on 13 hits, but got plenty of run support in game one as the Warriors pounded Monterey Bay 16-6. In the nightcap, Wallace pitching all seven innings in the 5-2 win.
The Warriors improved to 14-14 overall and 10-9 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with the three-game winning streak. The Warriors also improved their all-time record against Cal State Monterey Bay to 18-1 with a 13-game winning streak.
Stanislaus will be going for the sweep on Sunday when the series finale is shifted back to Turlock for a noon first pitch.
Cal State Monterey Bay falls to 6-26, 2-21 in conference.
Four Warriors each had three hits in the opener.
Michael Johnson homered twice for the second Saturday in a row.
Ross Gonsalves had three doubles and
Andrew Graves went 2-for-5 with five RBIs to lead the Stanislaus offense.
Corey Conflenti and
David Contreras each had three hits as well.
Johnson, who homered twice against Chico State in Turlock last Saturday, went 3-for-5 and drove in four runs. He hit a two-run homer in the fourth and followed it with a solo shot in the eighth.
In the nightcap, after CSUMB took a 2-1 lead through two innings, the Warriors cored three times on four straight hits in the third to take the lead for good.
Conflenti led off the inning with a double, then
Doug Porras singled before
David Contreras singled in Conflenti. Johnson then capped the rally with a two-run double.
Johnson finished the doubleheader 5-for-7 wtih six runs batted in with two homers and a double.
Wallace gave up two runs on six hits in the seven-inning complete game.
