TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus softball team was one inning short of a doubleheader split on Saturday, but Cal State Dominguez Hills rallied for eight runs in the seventh of game two to sweep the Warriors.
The Toros won game one 7-1 and scored eight times in their final at-bats to win the second game 8-5 to take three of four games in the series. Cal State Dominguez Hills improved to 13-9 overall and 8-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cal State Stanislaus dropped to 3-14-1 and 1-11 in conference play.
Dominguez Hills's Emily McEwen belted two home runs in game one off CSUS's
Brittani Weatherford to jump out on top 6-0 in the first four innings. McEwen had a three-run homer in the Toros' four-run second inning and followed it with a solo shot in the fourth.
Four different Warriors had a hit in game one with
Sarah Locarnini hitting double in the third.
In game two, Stanislaus took a early 3-0 lead after two innings.
Erica McIntyre doubled in Locarnini and scored on a bases loaded walk a few batters later.
Cassandra Carlos then singled in
Nikky Rissetto in the second inning to make it 3-0. Stanislaus would add a run in the fourth when Carlos again drove in Rissetto with a single through the left side.
However, the Toros finally got to CSUS starter
Jennifer Arnold in the seventh with eight runs on seven hits. McEwen drove in three runs with a double and was followed by Amber Angel's two-run homer to cap off the CSUDH rally.
Carlos finished the game 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three other Warriors -- Locarnini, Arnold and
Kiley Mendez -- each had two hits in the nightcap.
