TURLOCK -- The anticipated pitching duel between the two best staffs in the conference was showcased on Saturday -- and the Warriors held their own before coming up short in game one.

In the opener, down to its last out, UC San Diego belted back-to-back home runs to win 5-3. UC San Diego then hit two more home runs in the nightcap to rout the Warriors, 10-2, in seven innings.

With the sweep, the Tritons won the first three games of the four-game set and improved to 32-6 overall and 23-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Warriors fall to 17-19 and 13-14 in conference play.

Start time of the series finale on Sunday has been moved up to 10 a.m. to avoid the potential afternoon rain.

In Saturday's twinbill opener, Stanislaus starter Andrew Stueve battled UCSD's Matt Rossman for six innings. Stueve out-lasted Rossman by pitching seven innings and gave up two runs on nine hits. Rossman lasted six with three runs on five hits and seven strike outs.

Rossman had entered the game with a 7-0 record and a 2.05 earned run average on a pitching staff of three seven-game winners and a conference-best 3.36 team ERA. Cal State Stanislaus has the second best team ERA of 3.53 entering the weekend.

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when the UCSD center fielder dropped a fly ball to allow David Contreras to reach third. He scored on a sac fly by Michael Johnson.

The Tritons responded with two runs in the fifth, but Stanislaus even the score in the sixth with a Johnson RBI single that scored John Canepa. The Warriors took a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning when Vince Hungerford scored on a wild pitch.

In the top of the ninth, with the Warriors one out away from the upset win, the UC San Diego Tritons hit back-to-back home runs to take the lead and held on for the win. Brandon Gregorich and Even Kehoe belted line-drive homers off CSUS reliever Phillip Quade.

UCSD hit three home runs in game one off a Warriors staff that had allowed just nine in the first 34 games. Kellen Lee also hit a solo shot in the fifth.

The Tritons got the better pitching performance in game two with Guido Knodson tossing the seven-inning complete game. He struck out eight, gave up two runs on six hits en route to the win.

Warrior starter Kory Wallace lasted five innings and gave up seven runs on 10 hits with one strike out.

UC San Diego got another home run from Lee and Blake Tagmyer in game two for a total of five on the day.  The Tritons scored four runs in the fifth with two outs. In all, UCSD scored seven runs with two outs in game two.

Contreras led Stanislaus with two doubles and drove in a score while Filkins batted in a run with a single up the middle in the first inning.

Gregorich finished the day 5-for-9 with a double, home run and drove in two runs on the day to lead UCSD.
