TURLOCK — A game of inches set the tone for the day as the resurrected Humboldt State Lumberjacks won both ends of the doubleheader on Friday at Warrior Softball Field.

Humboldt State used a two-run homer and escape two-near home runs by Cal State Stanislaus to win game one, 4-3, in eight innings. Then the Lumberjacks used a four-run second to take game two, 6-2.

The usually-powerful Lumberjacks struggled in the first half of the season and seems to have caught fire in the second half with 10 conference games remaining. The Lumberjacks, winners of eight of their last 10 games, improved to 23-21 overall and 13-13 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Cal State Stanislaus (13-30-1, 8-22 CCAA) had its four-game winning streak ended but the Warriors were a few inches away from an opener win on Friday.

HSU took a 2-1 lead in the third on a Geneva Perrine home run down the left field line that just hugged the foul pole.

Trailing 2-1 in the third, Nikky Rissetto hit a towering fly ball to deep left-field and missed clearing the fence by a few inches for a double. Instead of a home run, the lead off double turned into a 1-2-3 inning on a line-out double play and a comebacker to the pitcher.

Stanislaus did manage to tie the score in the fourth on a walk to Arnold. A sac bunt and a timely single to right-center field by Veronica Luna evened the score.

In the Warrior fifth, Missy Corral hit a shot to the fence in left that HSU's Felicia Vivieros reached above the fence to make the play.

After HSU take a 3-2 lead, the Warrior tied it again in the bottom of the seventh. Another lead off walk came around to score on a two-out single by Rissetto sent the game into extra innings. HSU, however, picked up three hits in the eighth to win.

Rissetto and Luna each had two of the team's six hits in the opener. The Warriors struck out 10 times against HSU's Gracie Perez.

In the nightcap, the Lumberjacks used a four-run second inning with five singles for a 5-0 lead. Nikky Ketteringham had started game two on a solo home run to right for HSU.

Stanislaus got two runs back in the fourth -- one one a wild pitch and another on a fielder's choice grounder.

Erica McIntyre, Sarah Locarnini and Arnold each had a hit for the Warriors in the nightcap.

Cal State Stanislaus will wrap up its home schedule as the Warriors honor the seniors on Saturday. The home finale is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
