CHICO -- Jenna Wermes delivered a walk-off single in game one, then the Chico State Wildcats scratched together four single-run innings to pick up a sweep over Cal State Stanislaus on Friday.
The Warriors managed two hits in the opener, but stayed in the game after tying the score in the top of the seventh. However, Wermes used a two-out single to score Christine Johnson who led off with a single to win 2-1.
In the nightcap, the Wildcats score a single run in four different innings for a 4-1 win over the Warriors. Chico State snapped a 15-game losing streak to the Warriors dating back to 2006 to improve to 26-17 overall with their sixth and seventh straight win. Chico State is also 19-14 in fourth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cal State Stanislaus dropped to 13-34-1 overall and 8-26 in CCAA play with two games remaining on Saturday.
Trailing 1-0 in game one, the Warriors got even with a leadoff walk. Two errors and a
Cassandra Carlos single to left field scored
Jennifer Arnold for the tie.
Chico State, however, got a lead off single by Johnson and a sac bunt and a fly out later, Wermes singled up the middle for the walk-off win.
In game two,
Sarah Locarnini, Arnold and
Kiley Mendez all had two hits each but the Warriors left seven runners on base.
Chico starter Kacie McCarthy struck out seven and allowed seven hits in the complete game win. Sam Quadt went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs to lead the Wildcats.
