Porras, Warriors feast on Toros pitching

CARSON -- Doug Porras made the most of his final collegiate game on Sunday as the senior blasted four home runs to lead Cal State Stanislaus over Cal State Dominguez Hills, 19-2, in the Warriors' season finale.

Spoiling the CSUDH senior day, Porras led the offensive charge while starter Eric Cendejas cut-down the Toros as the Warriors wrap up the 2010 season on a winning note. Cal State Stanislaus 23-26 overall and 19-21 in the CCAA to finish in fifth place in the conference.

Cal State Dominguez Hills finishes the regular season 37-16, 27-13 in the CCAA. The Toros are heading to the CCAA tournament next weekend in Stockton as the No. 2 seed.

Porras was the story on the day as he set two Cal State Stanislaus records. He went 4-for-4 with four home runs to drive in 10 runs. He also scored six times and reached base all six times with a walk and was hit by a pitch. The home runs and runs batted in are both CSUS single game records. He also tied the single game record by scoring six runs.

The NCAA record for home runs in a game is five while the mark for RBIs in a game is 13.

Porras went yard in each of his first three at bats with a solo in the first, a three-run blast in the third and a two-run jack in the fourth. He was walked in the sixth inning before belting another three-run home run in the seventh. In the ninth inning, he was hit by a pitch.

Corey Conflenti went 5-for-6 and scored five runs while Vince Hungerford and Ross Gonsalves each had three hits as part of the Warriors' 19-hit attack off five Toros pitchers.

Leading 8-1, the Warriors added five runs in the sixth and three runs in the seven to blow the game wide-open.

Cendejas tossed eight strong innings and stuck out eight. He allowed just one run and gave up seven hits to improve to 5-7. Derek Eaton pitched the final inning, gave up a solo home run and fanned one Toro.

As a junior last season, Porras had three home runs and 13 RBIs in 26 games played.
