POMONA — As usual, the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors never stop until the final whistle. Friday afternoon, they scored two goals in the game's final 15 minutes to pull off a 2-1 comeback victory over Cal Poly Pomona.

Alisa Barlow tied the score in the 85th minute before Karli Nestler gave the Warriors the win with 34 seconds left to play to propel Cal State Stanislaus to another key road victory.

With the win, the Warriors improved to 6-3-4 overall and 5-3-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The all-important three points in the standings put the Warriors four points back of North division leader Sonoma State, which beat Cal State Monterey Bay, 2-0, on Friday.

Cal Poly Pomona had its five-match unbeaten streak stopped and fell to 7-3-3 overall and 5-3-3 in the CCAA South. The Broncos were 3-0-2 in their five previous contests.

"We played with fantastic heart and determination today and beat a quality team," CSUS head coach Gabriel Bolton said. "There is no question we absolutely dominated the second half and kept battling the entire 90 minutes."

The match was dominated by the Stanislaus offense as its quick strike attack put pressured on the Broncos. In the first half, the Warriors out-shot Cal Poly Pomona, 9-6. CSUS finished the match with 21 shots to CPP's 13.

However, CPP's defense and goalie Sarah Rohman, who had six saves, kept Stanislaus off the board until late in the match.

The rapid firing strategy finally paid off in the final 15 minutes for the Warriors. Trailing 1-0, Emily Relles' corner kick on the right side was placed five yards in front of the goal. That's where Barlow was, using her head, for the finish to tie the match at 84:34.

"(Barlow) scored a great goal off the corner kick beating her mark," Bolton described.

Less than five minutes later, with 34 seconds left to play at 89:26, Nestler finished a shot from an Alexia Poon cross to give the Warriors the thrilling win.

"Alexia just destroyed her defender on the wing and Karli did a brilliant job of getting open in the box," added Bolton.

The final-minute victory could also prove to be important as the Warriors won't have to play in overtime. This is especially on the road in the CCAA where a team can only carry 20 players on the travel squad.

Millie Brown picked up three saves for the Warriors with the only Broncos goal in the 23rd minute on a Nushin Tasbihchi score.
