TURLOCK — Andrew Stueve tossed a complete game and got the much-needed run support as Cal State Stanislaus opens a key four-game set against Cal State L.A. with a convincing 7-3 win Friday.

The Warriors, scoring more than five runs in a conference game for the first time since April 2, improved to 21-17 overall and 13-16 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State Stanislaus hopes to make a run down the stretch where it will play 10 games in 10 days to finish the regular season.

Colton Beatty provided the offensive power, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning that broke a 2-2 tie. Beatty, who also had three singles, finished the day 4-for-5, scored twice and drove in three runs while extending his hitting streak to eight games. Beatty is now batting .313.

Stueve gave up just two harmless hits in the first four innings and was cruising with a 2-0 lead. The senior ended up scattering eight hits on the day for his second complete game of the year. He issued a walk and struck out six to increase his personal record to 4-2 on the year. He is now 18-10 in his four-year career at Cal State Stanislaus.

The Warriors started the game with three straight hits off Cal State L.A. starter Kamakani Usui. Ross Gonsalves' double scored David Contreras from first and Gonsalves later scored on a Zach Cadet ground out.

Cal State L.A. (24-19, 18-15 CCAA) tied the score in the top of the fifth, but the Warriors answered right back. Contreras led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch, one out later, Beatty drove a 1-1 pitch from Usui deep over the high right-field wall for a two-run homer.

Cal State Stanislaus tagged on two runs in the seventh, highlighted by a run-scoring triple by Vince Hungerford. Joe Medeiros drove in Hungerford when he fouled out down the leftfield line.

Beatty also drove in Cisco Green in the eighth on a single to left after two Warriors reach when they were hit by pitches offered by Golden Eagle reliever Thomas Landeros.

Hungerford and Gonsalves both finished with two hits.

Usui was charged with the loss after giving up four runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings. Chad Nacapoy went 2-for-4 with a RBI triple in the fifth for Cal State L.A.

The series continues with a doubleheader starting at Noon on Saturday.
