LOS ANGELES — In the California Collegiate Athletic Association opener for both teams, the Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles' bats came alive late as they rallied to edge Cal State Stanislaus, 10-8.

The Warriors used a huge inning to built a 7-0 lead, but Cal State L.A. steadily cut into its deficit Friday afternoon at Reeder Field on the campus of Cal State L.A.

Cal State Stanislaus (1-2, 0-1 CCAA) scored seven runs in the third inning behind five hits that included a bases clearing single by Andy Yingling and a three-run home run by DJ Arellano.

The Stanislaus third started with a walk and a single and with two outs, the Warriors rallied. After Craig Beevers was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Eli Davis drove in a run with an infield hit. Yingling then cleared the bases with a single to right center for a 4-0 lead. Jordan Long followed with a single, just ahead of Arellano's first home run on a 1-0 pitch as the Warriors jumped on top 7-0.

However, Cal State L.A. chipped-away at the Warrior lead in the next three innings. The Golden Eagles scored twice in the home-half of the third keyed by a two-run double by Daniel Duran. L.A. added two more on a two-run homer off the bat of Jeremy Weber and tied the game in the fifth with runs scoring on a solo home run, a wild pitch and a sac fly.

Stanislaus would get back on top with a run in the sixth when Arellano scored on a Justin Manci fly out to left. But L.A. tagged on three runs off CSUS reliever Chris Short for the go-ahead and eventual winnings run.

Short was tagged with the loss after taking over for starter Byron Lemon,  who gave up seven runs on nine hits in four innings of work. Only one of three runs allowed by Short was earned as LA scored twice after a fielding error in the seventh.

Yingling finished the day 2-for-4, Ross Gonsalves had two hits and Colton Beatty doubled. Arrellano was 1-for-3 and drove in three scores on his first home run as a Warrior. He also scored twice.

Cal State L.A. (5-2, 1-0 CCAA), however, out-hit the Warriors, 17-8 with Jesus Cuevas going 4-for-5 and Duran 3-for-5.

The four-game series continues tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
