BELMONT — Brittani Weatherford pitched her first shutout of the year to help the Warriors snap an eight-game losing streak before they split a non-conference doubleheader at Notre Dame de Namur.

Weatherford's three-hit shutout lifted the Warriors to a 3-0 win in game one, but NDNU rallied for two runs in its final at-bats to win the nightcap, 4-3.

Weatherford did not allow an Argonaut beyond second base in the gem and faced just 24 batters. She struck out six and walked one. After giving up a leadoff single in the first, she struck out three of the next four batters before allowing an one-out double in the second. The only other hit was a harmless single in the fifth.

Offensively, Stanislaus (5-14 overall) needed just its three early runs for the victory. Sarah Locarnini, who went 2-for-4 and scored twice in the game, ledoff the game with a single and later scored on an one-out triple by Jordan Flora.

Helped by two NDNU errors, the Warriors scored twice in the third with Weatherford scoring on an error by the right fielder, which also allowed Locarnini to advance to third. Locarnini then scored on a bunt by Rachel Borges.

In game two, the Warriors jumped out on top 3-0 in the first after Borges (walked) and Lauren Liming (hit by a pitch) both reached on free passes. After a Flora single to load the bases, Vanessa Del Toro singled in two runs with a third run plating during a run-down between first and second base.

The score held up for starter Natalie Rendon until the fifth. Despite Rendon striking out the side in the fifth, NDNU scored on two singles and a stolen base. Mary Ortega then ledoff the sixth with a solo homer to make it 3-2.

Notre Dame de Namur (7-4) then scored twice in the seventh that included three straight hits featuring a double and a triple off CSUS relievers Kristan Burns and Kiley Mendez.

Del Toro finished game two with two hits and two RBI while Flora also went 2-for-4.

The Warriors will return home for CCAA play this weekend with a four-game set, Friday and Saturday, against first place Cal State Dominguez Hills. CSUDH, ranked No. 20 in the nation, swept Hawaii Pacific on Wednesday to improved to 15-2 overall and 8-0 CCAA.
