Warriors split doubleheader, series with Toros

CARSON -- Once again the Warriors offense jumped on top of the Cal State Dominguez Hills pitching early as they won game one today before dropping a 10-inning affair in the nightcap for the twinbill and series split.

Cal State Stanislaus scored six runs in the first two innings en route to a 7-2 win on Friday before dropping a 6-5,10-inning decision in game two. The Warriors, 2-2 on the trip, return with 11-11 overall and 8-8 California Collegiate Athletic Association records.

Eli Davis picked up the day's first hit to extended his hitting streak to 12 games in the opener before ending up 4-for-5 for the game. Davis, however, went 0-for-4 in the second game to end his hitting streak. However, he did reached base when he was hit by a pitch to run his consecutive games on base streak to 20 games.

The Warriors scored both first-inning runs on two CSUDH throwing errors. They tagged on four more runs in the second inning needing just two hits with a Toro error, three walks, a wild pitch and a passed ball. Davis and Michael Turay both drove in a run in the inning.

Starter Phil Quade earned the win after going six solid innings. He gave up just one unearned run on five hits. He struck out four and walked four. Chris Short tossed three shutout innings and gave up just two hits for the save.

In game two, Stanislaus had a 2-0 lead until CSUDH scored three runs in the fourth. Jordan Long's fly ball scored Justin Manci, who led off the game with a single. In the third, Manci drove in Garrett Wright, who started the inning withh a triple to left centerfield.

The Warriors did answer back with three runs in the sixth for a 5-3 game until Dominguez Hills (7-17, 5-15 CCAA) tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. The scheduled nine-inning game stayed 5-5 until the home team prevailed with a Carlos Avila walk-off double to right center to win.

Turay doubled in a run and Craig Beevers drove in two scored with a single in the Warrior sixth.
