TURLOCK — Eli Davis went yard twice and Rafael Vasquez threw a complete game as Cal State Stanislaus defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 8-2, in game two of the series on Saturday.

The Warriors have won the first two games of the four-game set as the series shifts to Seaside for a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch is at 11 a.m. Cal State Stanislaus improved to 13-11 overall and 10-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Cal State Stanislaus continued its dominance over the Otters, especially at home. The Warriors have won won 10 straight games against CSUMB in Turlock and improved their all-time series record to 25-2.

In Saturday's game, the Warriors jumped all over CSUMB starter Aaron Appino, belting two home runs on three pitches. Davis led-off with his fourth home run of the year on the second pitch. He was followed by Michael Turary's shot on the first pitch to give CSUS a 2-0 lead before an out was recorded.

After another single in the second inning, Davis came up in the third with the bases loaded and just one out. The senior deposited another Appino offering over the left field wall for a grand slam to put the Waririors up 7-0. Earlier in the inning, Long had scored on a Andy Yingling sac fly to start the rally.

That was all more than enough run support for Vasquez who allowed just four hits in the first five innings. Cal State Monterey Bay pushed across a run on a couple of walks and a single in the sixth before a Brian Haggett home run in the eighth.

Vasquez gave up seven hits, struck out a career-high eight batters and walked three in the complete game win for his best outing of his career.

Ross Gonsalves went 3-for-3 with two doubles, Jordan Long had two hits and scored twice and Joe Medeiros also doubled.

Davis finished the day 4-for-5 with two homers and drove in six runs as he continues to sizzle at the plate. He is now batting .391 for the year after picking up his second four-hit game. Davis has also reached base safely in 22 consecutive games.

For the Warriors, they have won eight of their last 11 games. For the time being, until the rest of the CCAA plays today, the Warriors have moved up to fifth place in the conference standings.

Cal State Monterey Bay (15-13, 8-10 CCAA) was led by Jason Merjano with two hits.
