TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus softball team didn't need many hits on Friday to pick up another doubleheader sweep as the Warriors extend their winning streak to four with a pair of wins over Cal State San Bernardino.

The Warriors needed just four hits to win game one, 9-6, before taking the nightcap, 6-4, on six hits. Cal State Stanislaus improved to 11-20 overall and 4-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Cal State Stanislaus capitalized on the free passes issued by Cal State San Bernardino (8-15, 4-10 CCAA) all day. Three Coyote pitchers combined to give up seven walks and hit three batters in game one. The trio then walked six and nailed three Warriors in the second game.

The Warriors needed just one hit in the first inning, a Vanessa Del Toro single up the middle, to score two runs (both runners reached on walks). They scored two more times in the third on one hit and didn't even need a hit in the fourth to score three times.

In the fifth, Rachel Borges scored two runs with a single to center (both of those runners reached on free passes).

On the other side of the ball, CSUSB picked up 13 hits but left eight runners on bases, including leaving the bags full in the fourth. The Coyotes also hit into two double-plays.

Brittani Weatherford earned the win in the opener, and after reliever Kiley Mendez got into trouble in the seventh, returned to get the final out to improve to 6-7 on the season. Del Toro finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and Borges drove in three runs.

In the nightcap, Stanislaus starter Natalie Rendon gave up the base on balls as well with seven, but CSUSB didn't use them to its advantage. Only two Coyote runs were scored via walks, including a bases loaded walk in the third.

Stanislaus scored four runs in the second to make it a 5-2 game en route to the win. The four runs were scored on two singles, two walks, a hit-batsman and a CSUSB error. Four consecutive walks in the fourth also gifted the Warriors a run to make it 6-3.

Mendez threw much better in game two, going 4 1/3 innings and gave up just four hits. She allowed one unearned run in the sixth inning.

Flora finished with two hits and Del Toro had two RBIs in the second game.

The teams meet again Saturday morning at 11 a.m. immediately after a pre-game ceremony honoring coach Jan Schefkowitz's milestone of 500 career victories at Cal State Stanislaus.
