TURLOCK — Cal State Stanislaus was able to avoid the sweep from UC San Diego in dramatic fashion -- rallying late and winning with a walkoff single -- by splitting Sunday's doubleheader against the Tritons.

Ross Gonsalves' run scoring infield single in the bottom of the seventh helped Stanislaus complete the game two rally with a 7-6 victory. The win prevented the UCSD sweep as the Warriors snapped a long draught against the Tritons, ending a 17-game losing streak.

UC San Diego, which beat the Warriors 12-8 in game one on Sunday, upped its record to 15-9 in the CCAA for a share of second place. UCSD is 17-15 overall. Cal State Stanislaus is now 16-14 overall and 13-11 in the CCAA, hanging on to fifth place, two games behind fourth place Cal State San Bernardino heading into a bye week.

The hitting stars on the day included Eli Davis and Jordan Long each with five hits, but it was Gonsalves who came up big in the nightcap. He went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the game, including the last. After Craig Beevers started by getting hit by a pitch, he moved to second on a Skippy Ferreria bunt. Beevers advanced to third on a catcher's error as DJ Arellano struck out.

With one out, Gonsalves slashed a slow chopper to the shortstop to drive in Beevers for the win.

UCSD had posted five runs in the first three innings but the Warriors answered with five in the fourth. Manci hit a line drive down the left field line to provide that spark to ignite the Warriors and Davis delivered a clutch double with the bases loaded off UCSD's reliever Elias Tuma. A well located grounder to the first baseman by Michael Turay plated Gonsalves for the fifth run.

UCSD and Stanislaus traded runs in the sixth while CSUS's Anthony Gotelli pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the seventh by striking out Garrett Tuck.

Sunday's first game begin with a rare showing from Warrior starter Phil Quade, who was chased after just 1 1/3 innings. The Tritons capitalized by connecting clutch hits with Warrior miscues to plate 10 runs in the first two innings.

The Warriors proved no lead is too daunting as they chipped away with three runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to set the table for an eventful ending.

With UCSD leading 12-6, clutch hitting by Davis with a single to center-field that scored Bryce Smith and Gonsalves set the table. A walk to Turay loaded the bases for the games potential tying run with Colton Beatty at bat. Situational defense proved to be the difference when Beatty lined a ball up the middle, but right in the glove of UCSD shortstop Tuck for a game-ending double-play as he tagged the runner at second.

Davis, who was 4-for-6 with two RBIs in game one, ended up 5-for-9 with two doubles and drove in four runs in the twinbill. Long went 4-for-5 with a double while Gonsalves, Smith and Ferreria each had two hits in the 19-hit attack in game one. Gonsalves and Manci each went 2-for-3 in the nightcap.
